"How is this possible?!" The veteran soldier John, facing Chen Chen's monstrous form and the despair of being utterly outmatched by human strength, collapsed, his legs buckling as he fell to the cold ground.
"Why wouldn't it be possible?" Chen Chen's pale, slender fingers traced a silver arc across the snowy night sky, shimmering like moonlight. His expression remained impassive, neither joy nor sorrow. "You simply don't understand true power."
"You're nothing but frogs at the bottom of a well, mutated and acting on instinct, deluding yourselves into thinking you're invincible."
In an instant, under the influence of a mysterious force, countless water molecules in the air transformed into a blizzard of ice shards, each no larger than a thumb. The frigid energy contained within them was enough to freeze a small river solid, and now they materialized in the air by the tens of thousands.
*Swish~ Swish~ Swish~*
In less than a second, the ice shards pierced John's body, instantly nullifying the thousands of degrees Celsius radiating from his surface. In the next moment, John froze into an ice sculpture.
A gentle tap shattered the ice sculpture into silver dust, which was then swept away by the biting wind, becoming one with nature.
"Next is you," Chen Chen said, his gaze fixed on Savan, the last survivor. In an instant, he vanished.
Chen Chen's disappearance was a terrifying omen for Savan. He spun his head frantically, scanning his surroundings. "Where is he?! Where is he?!"
He searched forward, backward, left, right, up, and down—nowhere to be found!
If a third party were present, they would likely mistake Savan for a deranged madman, wandering alone with a face contorted by panic and terror.
As Savan frantically searched for Chen Chen, a hand emerged from the void and reached for his head.
Without a sound, the hand clamped down and lifted.
Savan was hoisted into the air, dangling from Chen Chen's grip.
"Waaah!" The initial shock of being seized by the head quickly gave way to an unfamiliar emotion. The panic in his heart transformed into rage.
Yes, boundless fury surged from the depths of his soul.
As his rage erupted, Savan's power and body temperature surged under the influence of his fury, rising relentlessly.
"Let go of me, you bastard!" As this furious will radiated outward, Savan's power and temperature soared. His muscles twisted and vibrated violently, as if trying to completely shatter Chen Chen's grip.
But it was useless. Not even a trace of a mark remained on Chen Chen's palm, which could distort space with its thousands of degrees Celsius. Savan was utterly unable to break free from Chen Chen's restraint. He felt like a bug frozen in amber, completely immobilized from head to toe.
This strange emotion and sense of helplessness only fueled his rage further, making him increasingly aware of his own feelings.
"It's like... like! That same sense of powerlessness I felt when I was becoming a cripple!"
Meeting Chen Chen's cold gaze, the chill seemed to pierce through his skin and stab directly into his heart. A sharp pain surged through him again. *Is he mocking me?!*
Savan was once a soldier who lost his arm during a mission and was forced to retire.
After his retirement, he gradually became aware of the deliberate stares he faced from people around him, each one feeling like a needle—no, like a sword—piercing his skin.
That was discrimination.
With his missing arm, he was undoubtedly an outsider in society. No matter how much others tried to comfort him or say "It's okay," Savan knew those were just empty words. In reality, they offered no solace beyond self-deception.
Wherever he went, the stares of others, filled with prejudice, followed him like a shadow.
In that moment, Savan felt the injustice of society and a burning resentment toward humanity.
After repeatedly struggling to manage daily life due to his physical disability, Savan even contemplated suicide.
But everything changed at that very moment. Just as he was sinking into despair, a glimmer of hope appeared before him.
The Extremis Virus was his only chance to change his life.
At Killian's persuasion, Savan injected himself with the Extremis Virus. After all, for someone who had nothing left to lose, there was nothing he couldn't risk.
Then, fortunately, the experiment was a success.
The Extremis Virus chose him, successfully transforming him and giving him a new lease on life.
He still remembered the warmth and reassurance of the high-temperature fluid flowing through his veins.
It had saved his life and granted him unprecedented power, astonishing regenerative abilities, and unparalleled pyrokinesis.
At the same time, Savan remained eternally grateful to Killian for giving him everything he now had. That's why he would fight and die for him.
"I am the next stage of human evolution! I am a being beyond humanity!" Savan roared, then launched into a frenzied assault on Chen Chen, even throwing his head back to try and bite Chen Chen's neck.
Yet, tragically, none of Savan's attacks could reach Chen Chen. His strikes were blocked by an invisible wall about thirty centimeters away.
One struggled with all his might, while the other remained as indifferent as a giant crushing an ant.
This scene was undoubtedly filled with a sense of helpless sorrow, the bitter taste of desperately clinging to life while being forced to wait for death.
Chen Chen stared at Savan, whom he held in his hand, his mind empty, filled only with nothingness.
He cared nothing for how much life Savan had left, nor for the changes in his mind. He simply wanted Savan to know this:
Like a chick being twisted in a hand, Chen Chen wrenched Savan's body towards him, revealing the contorted, furious face before him.
"Heh." A light laugh escaped Chen Chen's lips as he offered Savan a seemingly gentle smile. "Don't worry, I won't let you die too quickly."
To Savan, however, that smile and voice were like the grinning maw and guttural growl of a demon.
*Bang!*
With one hand gripping Savan's head, Chen Chen's right fist transformed into a streak of light, a wave of dark energy, carrying immense force, surged through Savan's skull.
In a single punch, Savan's face twisted into an grotesque mask, his features contorting into a grotesque, unrecognizable mess.
This was agony beyond measure, extreme agony.
In his entire life, Savan had never experienced such intense pain. The body, which had been repairing itself through the Extremis Virus, shattered once more. "Did I... choose the wrong opponent?"
For the first time, Savan entertained such thoughts about the enemy before him—a warrior's retreat.
Yet this was understandable. Chen Chen's attacks against Savan contained traces of dark power.
