Cherreads

Chapter 9 - The Milk of a goddess!

"You mortals are always impatient." A familiar voice drifted into his ears with a soft sigh.

"Your gifts are ready."

Red quickly straightened up.

"About time." He muttered under his breath.

His gaze slowly scanned the whole room, yet he didn't see anyone.

"Dont bother. Just close your eyes and feel the warm glow around your chest."

"It'll grant you an opening into the apperture I created in your soul. Your gifts await you there." The voice said before fading away.

Red didn't waste time...

Sitting cross-legged once again, he followed the words of the goddess.

Soon, he felt a wave of heat around his chest, which soon spread over his body. Moments later, his vision was consumed by a bright light.

Opening his eyes, he found himself within a white expanse.

He slowly took in the view before him... clear white sky, which stretched endlessly before concentrating on the glowing orbs floating metres away from him.

They were seven in total. Each exuding a different energy.

"Do I just grab them or what?" He muttered. Getting no response, he slowly walked towards the first orb.

A glowing sphere of white light, which was surprisingly soothing to his touch. The glow began to dwindle, its light passing into Len's fingertips and into his soul.

He staggered backwards, feeling a bit lightheaded for a moment before getting his bearings back.

During the moment, he heard a voice in his head.

This teasing voice. It was her! He could hear the goddess' voice in his head!

'No... I can't have two annoying beings pestering my life. I'll fucking go crazy!'

[Name: ???]

The panel popped before him with bolder floating words.

"Right." Finally calming his mind, Red stared at the blank space for a long time before finally inputting his name.

A white screen appeared before him with floating words. Red stared at the bold letters of his name floating before him.

Yes. He was no longer Red. He had decided. He was going to go by the name Len Ashborn from now on.

"It's best to abandon everything tying me back to that damn world." After all, it had been destroyed.

He never truly had a name back in his previous life. Red was a name he got along the way due to his red hair.

He finally stared down after some time, going through the other details.

"If I'm correct, nothing seems useful right now." Len muttered to himself after going through everything. Though he wasn't furious. Not yet.

From his memories, one could only gain access to the Tower's status window after passing the first trial, but here he was... already with a status window without even stepping a single toe into the tower.

There's got to be a way he could abuse this golden opportunity.

Feeling a bit energized, he moved to the next orb. This one exuded a golden glow. He felt his soul churn slightly just from touching it.

The light finally faded away, revealing a little bottle, not bigger than his index finger with a strange whitish gold liquid within.

"What am I supposed to do with this?" Staring intently at the bottle, a screen finally popped up before him.

[The bottle contains a dense amount of milk...]

Len couldn't help but frown hearing the amused voice of the goddess.

"Hold on..." Len's face whitened as he stared at the bottle again with a scene flashing in his head.

"No fucking way! You... you wouldn't dare!"

The goddess let out a soft laugh, enjoying every moment.

[You're holding an extremely high-grade potion containing the milk of a goddess!]

"Seven fucking hells! She really did it. What the hell do you expect me to do with it?"

[Potion: Milk of the goddess ???!]

[Grade: X]

The next information made Len stumble in his steps. Fucking X grade! He was holding an X rank grade potion. Anything with the "X" rank was so hard to find most assumed it lived only in the realms of myths. A grade that would cause a blood bath if discovered on Elyon!

"No! No way in hell am I drinking that stuff." Len muttered. Though his resolve was a bit lacking this time around.

Drinking this would explicitly grant him a great boost, no doubt.

His mind couldn't help but wonder about the boons he would gain from just drinking the potion. Still yet, he hesitated.

[Just so you know... The potion will greatly help in weakening that insidious devil residing within your soul...]

The goddess didn't say more.

Dammit! Dammit!

Len huffed, kicking the smooth ground.

Arghhhhhhh!

Yelling out his frustration, he finally sat on the ground with a defeated sigh.

What else did he want again? The potion had provided a solution to one of his most crazy problems. The devil residing within his soul.

If what she said was really true, then he had no choice.

Even if the damn goddess was trying to mess with him. He knew she wouldn't harm him.

After all, he was an important piece in whatever plan she had in her divine brain.

Do gods even have brains?

Holding the bottle up, he slowly peeled off the lid.

Damn godd–

A maddening sweet scent instantly invaded the air as soon as he opened the bottle.

Len felt his senses tingle madly just from the scent alone.

"Bloody hell." He muttered before chugging the bottle in his mouth and drinking the contents in one gulp.

A word escaped his lips as he threw the bottle away.

Divine.

Absolute divine.

As much as he hated to say it... this... this was the sweetest thing he had ever tasted in his life! Two lives, actually!

He felt his senses soaring through the clouds.

Where they came from... he had no idea.

He gently lay on the ground with a dazed expression settling on his face.

Meanwhile, a great change slowly took place within his body. One that didn't come without pain.

And soon enough, the pain brought him back to his senses.

The pain of his whole blood system getting washed off and replaced by a whitish golden liquid with new fresh blood and all mixing together with it. He felt his heart beat faster as the blood circulated throughout his body.

The pain didn't last long like the previous ones, though.

Seconds later, he was back on his feet, staring at his hands in amazement.

This...

He felt fucking great.

The status window popped up as if it could read his mind.

[A dense pure energy has flooded your meridians!]

[Your body has gone through changes!]

"This is amazing..." He muttered with wide eyes.

Not only did it affect his body. He felt his soul nourished greatly and churning with unbridled energy.

But more importantly, he needed to confirm something.

"The devil.. is it gone?"

[To think that damn devil would pull off such trick... Tsk! She won't pose a threat to you any longer... not under my watchful gaze!]

"Good."

Though he didn't understand what she meant, hearing everything was all good was fine by him.

Without wasting much time, he headed towards the third orb.

"Wonder what this one gonna be..."
