The battle was any the kingdom had ever witnessed before as it seemed the creatures never ceased to finish.
Seeing how the war was raging below, she had sneaked off to assist, knowing the Duke, her 'father' would never allow her.
Yet, she had to be in the battle and help reduce casualties. They were going to need everyone to overcome this trial.
The battlefield was chaotic. Donned in a full body armour with a helmet hiding her face and preventing others from realising it was the Duke's daughter.
She had long gone through her Innate traits and first ability unlocked and even got to train secretly over the past week.
Thankfully, she continued the legacy of her family and even unlocked an extra trait.
Something unheard of.
Joining the ranks in fighting the monsters from breaking past the gate, there, she met more aspirants like her showcasing their different powers and giving it their all to increase their strength in this seemingly heaven given opportunity.
The soldiers were doing well, and even the aspirants were performing better than she expected. Slowly, they pushed the monsters back and were about to claim victory until chaos erupted from within their lines.
Maya, at the front line, only managed to hear information about something attacking their fellow comrades from behind.
'How did a creature get through and all the way back!' She thought, quickly rushing back only to witness the carnage before her.
Countless bodies lay on the ground, their skin exceedingly white with horror etched across their faces even in death.
Maya gazed through the bodies and realised a significant portion were aspirants. Her gaze finally fell on the creature... no, she couldn't call such a human... killing its latest prey and seemed to have his face just inches away from the dead body.
White foggy wisps seemed to be drifting from the body on the ground and into the beings' mouth.
The purple haired human finally sucked in all the white fog and then lifted his head towards the sky.
"Ahhhhh." He exhaled in elation, his yellow eyes reflecting under the pale light. From the corner of his eyes, he spotted a figure with murderous intent charging towards him.
His yellow eyes finally fell on Maya.
"Ahhh. A Bloodline human. This is going to be a wonderful harvest." He said, licking his lips as he eyed the charging Maya without a hint of fear.
"I wonder what kind of ability I'm going to obtain from you."
Maya's sword ignited in dark flames as she swung forward.
A surge of dark flame exploded forward, engulfing the guy.
Maya didn't hear the deep agonizing scream that opponents usually let out when set ablazed by her.
"That's a unique ability you have there." A voice whispered behind her.
Quickly spinning around, she slashed down only to strike nothing but thin air.
The guy appeared before her, his eyes flickering with amusement. "I would have loved to play longer, but can let those damn creatures get ahead of me... right?"
Sparks slowly formed around his body, and within seconds, the shape of an armour was beginning to solidify around his body.
Maya exploded forward, barely paying attention to the armour that was already taking form.
"Quite the impatient one, huh." The purple haired guy casually raised his arm, and from it, a deep green energy was beginning to form.
"Expand!" He commanded. At the same time, the green ball before his outstretched palm suddenly shot out a laser size energy towards Maya.
Swinging her sword down, Maya blocked the attack with a grunt.
Soon enough, more green laser energy was streaking towards her direction.
Tsk.
"You'll have to do more than that to take me down." She roared as dark flames exploded outwards from her body, easily breaking through the green energy before dissipating.
By the time the smoke cleared, the purple haired guy was prepared.
The green energy before his palm had faded now replaced by a twin tailed sword with coloured curved blades at both ends. At the centre was a hilt wrapped in dark leather.
On his body was a deep yellow armour fitting snuggly to his skin with a large red eye etched at the chest piece.
The purple haired guy didn't give her a chance to fully take in his image, already charging forward at a surprising gust of speed.
The blade streaked forward with precision, aiming to slash her neck in one brutal swing.
Maya managed to raise her blade in time, blocking the sword.
A loud clang echoed over the area, followed by a low grunt.
"He's strong." Maya realised. Her arms were growing numb just from that first clash.
The guy let out a bright, devilish smile. "It appears those bastards still live up to their name in breeding monsters."
Dark flames surged around Maya as she charged forward. Her sword slashed towards his direction, this time trailing with dark flames.
Her speed had increased, yet the guy was easily able to evade or casually block her attack.
Twirling his sword around, a bark of laughter escaped his mouth as he went on the offence.
"You're truly amazing. Bloodline breed. None have ever lasted this long against me."
Maya didn't bother to reply. She didn't even have time for that as she struggled in blocking and evading the guy's deadly strike.
She blocked an overhead slash, aiming to retaliate with the window of opening only for her face to meet with the silvery edge of his blade about to split her head in two.
Twisting her neck in an odd angle, she barely managed to evade the attack, earning just a cut on her cheek along with a couple of strands of her hair.
She felt a force slam into her gut, sending her flying back and crashing hard on the ground.
"Ughhh... I think I broke my ribs." She groaned, struggling to rise.
The guy was already before her swinging his sword down at her.
She lifted her sword upwards, managing to block the strike with a groan escaping her as blood trickled down the corners of her mouth. And then another kick followed, sending her flying and crashing hard on the ground once again.
"Just how many have this guy killed to be this strong?" She thought, feeling her vision getting blurry.
"Uhhhh. Don't tell me you broke that easily." The guy voiced out, standing before the kneeling Maya, yellow eyes flaring darkly.
"Guess that you're just a disgrace to your so-called family."
Maya's eyes flared madly as she slowly rose from the ground. Her lips moved despite the pain she was going through.
"Take... that... back!" She lunged forward flames wrapping around her body in a devastating might.
A large explosion rocked the battlefield, sending chunks of earth flying over the area. At the same time, the slick wrench of a sword slicing through flesh and bone echoed under the devastating explosion...
