I wasn't going to let the past define my present moment.
Although I never expected this twist at all, if he wanted to be a pain in my ass, I would drop it all and walk away.
I straightened my posture and put a smile on my face, regaining my confidence that had seemed to stand idly by at the door the moment I met Adrian.
"Hello, sir," I said, voice smooth despite the unease coiling in my stomach. "I was called by the HR department to resume immediately yesterday and was shown to your office. If you want to give me an impromptu interview, I'm very much ready, sir."
I bit back the nervous energy buzzing under my skin.
He looked at me. No, studied me, and seemed almost amused by my sudden change of character. His lips twitched slightly, but his eyes… his eyes remained sharp, unreadable.
"There will be no need," came his response, calm and cutting.
"You'll be paid five thousand dollars weekly."
