Xavier woke up with a pounding headache.
The sharp, sour smell in the air made his stomach twist, and a low groan slipped through his lips. He tried to open his eyes, but the pain behind them burned so badly that everything stayed in a blur for several seconds.
His throat felt dry, his tongue heavy. When his vision finally adjusted, he realized this wasn't where he was supposed to be.
Just moments ago, he had been waiting for Meret.
Waiting for her to show up after encouraging her when she called, reminding her that she needed to master keeping her emotions in check—or at least learn to use them to her advantage—if she ever wanted to truly awaken her wolf. She'd told him she was coming. And then… nothing.
Now, he was here.
Wherever here was.
He blinked hard, sitting up slowly as the throbbing in his temples worsened. His body felt unusually heavy. This wasn't the safehouse they normally used. And he wasn't even at the safehouse to begin with.
