Meret and the beta sat alongside some other councilmen, waiting for the king's arrival. The air in the council room was heavy, filled with unspoken questions and tension.
Just then, the door opened, and they all rose to their feet in respect as the king entered, with Bruce walking a few steps behind him.
Meret's eyes flickered briefly to Bruce. Her second-in-command stood behind her, silent but observant, hands clasped neatly at his back.
She wondered if Bruce had been briefed about the case already. if he knew the full extent of what had happened. Or if, perhaps, he had seen Xavier yet.
Bruce leaned slightly toward the king, whispering something she couldn't quite catch. The king gave a small nod, then waved him off.
Bruce gave a short bow and quietly excused himself, walking out of the room.
Meret's gaze followed him until the door closed behind him. She couldn't help wondering where he was going or if his sudden departure had anything to do with what she suspected.
