Seraphina's Point Of View
"What if you can keep that position and still work for us as the Director of Executive Affairs?" he repeated, slower this time, letting the words settle in the air between us.
"What?!"
The word flew out of my mouth before I could catch it, sharp and disbelieving. I blinked at him like I'd misheard, like maybe the tension in the room had twisted his words into something ridiculous. My pulse quickened as I tried to process what he'd just said.
"Wait… hold on—" I lifted a hand slightly, shaking my head. The gesture felt inadequate for the confusion swirling through me. "Doesn't that mean I'll be holding two positions here?"
No one answered immediately. Which was worse. Because it meant they'd already discussed this. Planned it. Decided my fate without me.
"Yes," Lucian said calmly, his tone betraying nothing.
