Edward's Point Of View
I straightened slowly, forcing my expression back into something neutral. Controlled. Untouchable. The mask I'd worn for years, the one that had served me so well in boardrooms and negotiations.
"You're overreacting," I said, though even as the words left my mouth, I knew they were a mistake.
He blinked, his jaw slackening for just a moment. Then he laughed. Loud. Disbelieving. The sound echoed off the office walls, harsh and bitter. "Overreacting?" he repeated, his voice climbing. "You think this is me overreacting?"
"I think you're emotional," I replied coolly, each word measured and deliberate. "You just lost your job. You're not thinking clearly."
That hit. I saw it land. The flicker in his eyes… hurt mixing with fury. The anger sharpening into something more dangerous. His hands clenched at his sides, knuckles whitening.
