Seraphina's Point Of View
The elevator doors slid shut with a soft click, sealing us inside like we'd just stepped into a pressure chamber.
For a second, neither of us spoke.
Just the faint hum of the lift… and my heartbeat, still not entirely convinced we had survived that room. My pulse thrummed in my ears, a reminder of how close I'd come to losing my composure in front of the board.
Then, Rose exhaled loudly, the sound filling the small space. "Five days." Not dramatic. Not joking. Just… disbelief. Pure, unfiltered shock.
She turned her head slowly to look at me, eyes narrowing like she was about to march right back upstairs and flip that boardroom table herself. I could practically see the steam building behind those eyes.
"Five days?!"
I winced slightly, leaning my head back against the cold metal wall. The chill seeped through my blazer, grounding me.
"Mm."
