Lydia's Point Of View
The report in front of me blurred again. I didn't even try to fix it this time. Just let my eyes rest on the numbers while my mind drifted somewhere else entirely. Shipment logs. Time stamps. Clearance codes. Useless. All of it.
My pen tapped once against the edge of the table… then again… then faster. The rhythm matched the frustration building behind my ribs.
"Are you actually working," a voice cut in from my left, "or are you just aggressively staring at your screen?"
I didn't look at him. Didn't need to. I already knew the smirk he'd be wearing.
"What do you think?" I replied flatly.
A small pause hung between us.
"I think you're planning something illegal."
That made me glance sideways. He grinned, already leaning back in his chair like he'd said something clever. The kind of grin that begged to be wiped off.
I held his gaze for a second, letting the silence stretch just long enough to make him uncomfortable.
