Chapter 163 - Chapter 163: Checking On Grandfather (2)

Huang Shi's mind went into overdrive, making changes to his future plans with this new information as he realized that his budding relationship with Qiao Fenyi would be much more important than he previously thought.

If I can truly win over Qiao Fenyi, I have a high possibility of gaining the support of the Medicine Hall; that will make it two halls that are under our banner.

After thinking for a few more seconds, he then took out a second spatial ring, separate from the primary one he used, and placed it on the table in front of him.

"Grandfather, here are some cultivation resources that I've coincidentally come across during my training. I'll give some to you so you can improve your cultivation base."

Huang Li suddenly paused as he shook his head, his expression changing into that of a grimace.

"I'm already old, Shi'er. It's better if you use these resources yourself to improve your cultivation base. If not, give it to your stepmother instead; she is still quite young if you look at it through the eyes of a long-lived cultivator."

Huang Shi saw the decisive gaze that his grandfather had, and yet despite this, he was adamant.

"No, Grandfather, these resources are for you! I already gave my stepmother her share of the resources that she will use for her cultivation, and as for the resources that I will use, I have my own ways of gathering those. This means that this is your share!"

Huang Li paused as his expression became conflicted. It was common knowledge that the higher your cultivation base became, the harder it would be to increase your strength. This was especially the case in places where the density of spiritual energy was naturally lower and there is no spiritual energy gathering formation to remedy the issue.

This meant that despite his hard work over the years, he had reached a bottleneck in his cultivation, and his strength had hardly improved in the past couple of years despite his talent being above average when he was younger. After all, the older you get, the harder it would be to break past your limits and improve your cultivation base.

In fact, the only way for him to improve his talent for cultivation would be to break through his current bottleneck and increase his lifespan by reaching the Spirit Profound Realm. If he doesn't reach that level by the time his lifespan runs out, it would be over for him and he would die of old age.

Seeing the look of hesitation on his grandfather's face, he finally couldn't bear it anymore as he told him something that he had previously only told Li Mei.

"Grandfather, before Bai Xinyue and I separated, someone related to her gave me a huge amount of cultivation resources to help speed up my cultivation. I'm only giving the both of you a part of what that person gave me… so you don't need to worry too much about it."

Hearing the words from his grandson, he squinted his eyes as he looked back up at his golden eyes, taking his gaze off the spatial ring on the table as he asked with a trembling voice:

"Is that true? I thought you said you and Bai Xinyue didn't get along very well the last time you talked about her…"

Huang Shi's mouth suddenly twitched as he felt a strange chill rising up his spine, and he instantly shook his head in denial.

"Of course not, Grandfather. Xinyue and I get along quite well. In fact, we have made a decision regarding our engagement with one another."

After determining that this grandson of his wasn't lying to him, he finally breathed a sigh of relief as he replied in a melancholic voice:

"It seems that lass from the Bai Clan fancies you quite a bit if she was able to convince one of her clan members to give you so many cultivation resources... I won't ask who the person who gave you those things is, nor will I ask about how much you received; all I'll do is trust in your words."

After saying these words, Huang Li finally relented and took the spatial ring into his hands. He sent a bit of his spiritual energy inside of it to determine what was within; the moment he did, his fingers suddenly started to tremble as he looked back up at him, his eyes widened and his mouth agape.

"Shi-Shi'er! Why are there so many spirit stones here?! This is at least 100,000 spirit stones!"

Huang Shi gave a smile as he replied in a nonchalant manner, "That's right, Grandfather. With that amount of resources, it should be no problem for you to break through your current bottleneck and even further improve your cultivation base, right?"

Huang Li remained silent for a few seconds, his gaze returning to the insides of the spatial ring as he then asked another question.

"How much did you give to Mei'er?"

Seeing that his grandfather was also trying to determine how much his Mei'er had received, he decided to be honest as he replied, "About 200,000 spirit stones."

Huang Li trembled as he started breathing heavily, realizing that the gift given to his grandson by the Bai Family was precious beyond compare. After a few minutes of staring in disbelief, he finally managed to calm himself down as he laid his head back on the sofa, his hand covering his face as he spoke in exhaustion.

"Lad, that lady of the Bai Clan has clearly invested a lot in your future, and they wouldn't invest so much if they didn't have any expectation of you. You better be careful how you act around them in the future..."

Huang Shi, on the other hand, didn't seem as stressed. He already realized why Xinyue's mother, that supreme existence, had invested so many resources into him.

She knows about the fact that I have a heavenly physique anyways—probably the only heavenly physique in existence aside from Xinyue's. Of course she would want me to become indebted to her.
