There were many rooms on the inn's upper floor, each featuring a sturdy wooden door and a window that overlooked the terrace. Elizabeth arranged the sleeping accommodations: she and Alexander would share a room, while the others would each have their own. Of course, Rex had no intention of using his room.
He got an appointment with Nerith for tonight.
The upper floor hallway, narrow and illuminated by lamps, beckoned. The group came up from the common room in ones and twos, and everyone was already full after dinner and ready to rest.
Apollo and Nerith both came up the stairs at the same time. They discussed nothing in particular as they walked down the hallway, the way people do when they are comfortable with each other.
They stopped at their doors, which were next to each other and about a meter apart by a plank wall.
