He felt the resistance, the stubborn, fluttering heartbeats of Valentina and Morwenna, and it only made him more sadistic.
"Fuck the Underlayer's 'new governance'!" he spat, the words dripping with contempt. "Fuck their rules, fuck their structure, and fuck their 'order'!"
"They want a system? They want a hierarchy? Fine! But right now, there is only one law on this godforsaken rock, and that law is ME!"
He clenched his fist, and miles away, a golem crushed a man's skull into a wet, red pulp. Rex felt the satisfaction of it in his very bones.
"You want to be heroes, Ren?!"
"You want to be martyrs, Valentina?" Rex's voice dropped to a low, terrifying snarl that carried the weight of a death sentence. "Then die like them!"
