For a second, it felt like his heart had stopped. It might have, actually, along with the rest of his nerves and limbs, making him go completely still. Who wouldn't if they thought some nightmare creature had them in a fine hold and could just break them apart before they even felt it?
But the shock died down a bit once he recognized the coiling hold out of everything else. And the cold touch. The one that always managed to seep in, no matter how thick a shirt he wore. Reis knew that feeling too well.
Which he wasn't really proud of. It wasn't right to know something or someone that well within a handful of days after meeting them.
"I see where the ball of fur learned to climb."
It was still a nightmare creature, just the one who was too high in the ranks to break his bones for no reason.
Reis pushed back to look up at the not-an-object. Silver eyes met his own now brown eyes, with the same judgemental gaze. Eyebrow raised, half amused for no apparent reason.
