Enron looked at Ekron laying pale in bed. An answering pain squeezed his heart, and he dragged his battered body and lay next to the man, pulling him close. He didn't like being vulnerable and he especially didn't like being vulnerable with Ekron in the same vicinity.
He hated the old man and his fucking rules and would certainly repay the favor in due time. But for now, he had to focus on getting better. He needed to get better.
His body began to repair itself the moment their skin touched. His manna gradually restoring itself as the spirits settled with his linkers. He felt the moment the bond Snapped back into place. His headache stopped almost instantly and the buzzing ceased. He looked at the scars on his body and saw them mend themselves and the skin restore itself to its original form.
The repair to his internal injuries gave way to a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding.
He could hear Sethur downstairs together with his minions, probably drinking away Ekron's booze. He sighed and closed his eyes. He was going to recharge and when his body was back to its full strength, He was going to pay some wolves a visit.
He looked down at the man in his arms and gave him a kiss, then proceeded to take a long-deserved nap.
Sethur wrinkled his nose at the foul-tasting beer that his master's linker liked to drink. He hated it and always wondered how the man drunk such garbage. He was about to toss the beer bottle across the room when a particular memory of him against a tree with his neck, arms and feet bound flashed before his eyes.
He ground his teeth and settled it down on the floor. He then moved to the kitchen where he ransacked the cabinet and found a few old whiskeys and wines.
He smiled and took three bottles and settled himself in Ekron's favorite chair and went to work on the whisky. The twins Zei and Rei were immersed in a game of chess and didn't spare him the time of day.
Sethur frowned at this, had the human rubbed off on him? Why were his people not scared of him anymore?
He snorted and grabbed the remote. He knew his master's would be a while, so he didn't have any other obligations till they resurfaced from recharge. He turned on the tv and settled on a game of soccer, it was perhaps one of the few human playthings he found an ounce of amusement in. He hated humans but for what it was worth, they did have some interesting pastimes.
His amusement didn't last long because he heard the sound of a howl far in the distance. He frowned, standing up and hoping the idiot wouldn't repeat it again enough to be heard from this place but no such luck. Another howl ripped into the silent night and then to his annoyance several more followed in its wake.
The twins had, he had noted since abandoned the game and were now stood behind him awaiting his next command.
However, he didn't really know what he should be doing in this case either. He didn't have direct orders from his master's to confront or do anything to the werewolves. If anything, he knew that Enron would be the one to deal with whatever came with the dogs, but his master was in a recharge coma and would be for a while.
"Should we go take a look?"
"No... just, let it be for now. For all we know they are just running or doing whatever werewolves do"
"...but"
"Besides, He is almost done. Am quite sure he will want to take care of this himself" I cut Zei off knowing in an hour or less Enron will be done. However, I suspect Ekron might be a while. Even up to tomorrow, I think.
Zei reluctantly steps closer and stands a step behind looking like he wants to say something. I give him a slight nod and he starts hesitantly.
"When you left earlier, I went in to check on him just in case he was choking in his sleep or something and...." He stops himself as though he wasn't sure. "What?" I snap impatiently, now giving him my undivided attention.
"...his runes had resurfaced and blackened; it's like the ..."
"..."
I look away from him and face the window, looking through the pearl light of the moon as it shines through despite the night. "Like the curse has awakened" I finish for him instead.
"Did you feel it?" I ask instead.
"Yes, it was one of the strongest I have ever felt"
"Of course, it is" I mumble absently as my thoughts take me back to years prior when the child came to us.
The first time I ever met Ekron was a day I would never forget. He was maybe eleven. A hybrid with too much power and too much darkness to contain in one soul. He wasn't frightened by our kind. In fact, he took pleasure in how dark our world was. He was, dare I say far scarer than his father and brother alike.
And perhaps that was why even during all this time, his curse had not yet listed. Maybe because he didn't want it to. Or because there was no light for it to be repelled from.
And his linker was only too happy with that information and wouldn't think of changing anything about it.
Humans could rival demons when it came to sin. While they blamed the devil and put too much attention on something that didn't even deserve it let alone earned it. They whined about being influenced by demons and whatnot, but the truth was most humans were just evil.
Their balance had tipped. His had tipped way past the balance.
"...it will only be a problem if the wolves find themselves here, but for now let them do whatever they want. Besides, it's their territory after all."
