Chapter 309 - Chapter 309: Despairing Sasuke

The Sharingan truly lived up to its name as the Eye that Reflects the Heart.

The Mangekyō ability Sasuke awakened this time wasn't the 'lethal' Amaterasu and Kagutsuchi.

Just as Makoto predicted, the psychological trigger dictated the power.

Having snapped his sanity while desperately searching for Naruto, his new power was fundamentally built for high-tier stalking.

Sasuke slowly stood up, clutching his bleeding eye as he scanned the arena.

Activating the Mangekyō Sharingan didn't grant immediate access to all its abilities.

When Itachi awakened his, he only possessed Tsukuyomi until the night of the clan massacre.

Sasuke was no different.

He currently only had a grip on his left eye's dōjutsu.

To conserve his chakra, he covered his right eye. Yet the power of his left eye left him perplexed.

Its name was Heavenly Fox.

Named after the divine messenger of goddess Inari, whose eyes could pierce through all things, discerning distant and hidden truths.

The effect was simple: it was literal clairvoyance.

A Thousand-Mile Eye.

Awakening a dōjutsu named after a fox while searching for the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki?

That was a cursed level of bonding!

However, this dōjutsu had a slight glitch, causing Sasuke's current confused expression.

When he first unlocked it, he decided to test it out.

He wasn't sure if it had any side effects, so he didn't want to risk using it on Naruto right away.

Instead, he tested it on Sakura.

But the moment he focused on her, Sasuke was stunned. He couldn't see her clearly at all since a thick, censored fog shrouded her.

Then, Sasuke switched targets.

Naruto mentioned about saving Jiraiya, so Sasuke shifted his focus to the old pervert.

This time, the vision was crystal clear.

This left Sasuke bewildered.

If the ability worked fine on Jiraiya, what's with that fog blocking Sakura?

Sasuke then noticed Makoto and his group were gone from the audience seats.

He shifted his focus to Makoto.

Again, the vision was perfectly clear. Makoto was standing at a snack stall outside the arena, buying an ice cream cone.

But...

"You're spying on me, Uchiha Sasuke."

Makoto seemed to anticipate the 'Heavenly Fox.'

Holding an ice cream cone, he struck a pose and pointed in the direction Sasuke was spying from.

Sasuke flinched.

A sharp, burning pain flashed through his skull, snapping his vision back to his own body.

He clutched his eyes, his heart pounding with lingering fear.

'Okay, so it has limits. I'll just find Naruto first...'

After recovering, Sasuke shifted his focus to the idiot.

He ignored the censored fog and Makoto's who's somehow know about him spying.

As long as the Hidden Cloud Village didn't possess similar capabilities like Makoto...

"Found him!"

Using the Heavenly Fox, Sasuke quickly located the Turtle Island.

But...

"How has Naruto recovered?! He's laughing and talking with Killer Bee..." Sasuke's expression darkened into pure despair.

Had Naruto already fallen to the Cloud's corruption?

As for his recovery... did they transplant that artificial womb into him, harvest an Uzumaki infant, and then rip it back out so he could father more kids as a man?!

Sasuke's mind raced with traumatizing speculations.

The Heavenly Fox possessed telescopic vision but lacked sounds.

He could only see the two figures laughing and throwing their arms around each other's shoulders.

He couldn't hear what they were saying.

Feeling a sickening pang in his chest, Sasuke collapsed, his hands instinctively bracing against the concrete floor.

In the next instant, the stones beneath his palms began to fibrillate, sparking with chakra until they morphed and coalesced into a physical photograph.

Sasuke picked it up.

The photograph depicted the exact scene he just witnessed: Naruto and Killer Bee laughing together.

"This is..." Sasuke touched his right eye.

This was his second power, Void Sight.

Its effect was telescopic vision that imprinted whatever he saw into a photograph.

Without hesitation, Sasuke glared up at the Konoha Anbu.

"I'M WITHDRAWING FROM THE EXAM!" he yelled, bolting from the arena and sprinting toward the coast.

Turtle Island was overseas, so he'd have to hijack a boat.

No matter what, he had to drag Naruto back...

Wait.

Why did it feel like their roles had been completely reversed?

...

"Sasuke's really having a rough time," Makoto remarked, handing Hanabi an ice cream before sitting back down in the audience.

Makoto initially thought Sasuke's changed mindset would save him from the one-trick-pony trap of Amaterasu.

Instead, Sasuke unlocked something even weirder.

What was even more absurd was how Sasuke's Mangekyō still retained its bizarre codependency.

Kagutsuchi didn't need Amaterasu to manipulate black flames.

Even after his Rinnegan closed at the Valley of the End, Sasuke could still use Kagutsuchi to cast Amaterasu in his final attack.

The pattern continued here—Void Sight didn't need the Heavenly Fox to grant long-range vision.

You had to wonder if Sasuke was cursed by the universe to always have redundant eye powers.

Fortunately, Sasuke still had room to grow.

Once he got his Rinnegan and Amenotejikara, combining teleportation with global clairvoyance might actually be an overpowered combo.

It wasn't entirely hopeless.

...

"HEY, WAIT A MINUTE!"

Sarada had been watching her young father's mental breakdown from the shadows.

After Sasuke bolted, the Konoha Anbu picked up the dropped photograph, tucked it away, and prepared to leave.

Sarada stepped out to stop him.

"Who are you?" the Anbu asked, eyeing the kid with suspicion.

"I'm..." Sarada hesitated.

As an artificial human from a fake timeline, she didn't use a Transformation Jutsu.

As long as she hid her Uchiha crest and kept her Sharingan off, no one would recognize her.

But what should she say?

"She's Uchiha Sasuke's daughter. Give her the intel," a voice ordered from behind the Anbu.

"Is that... you?" Sarada recognized Uchiha Hikari, the Uchiha ancestor who cast the genjutsu on her.

Makoto was standing right beside her.

"Alright, whatever you say." The Anbu, ever compliant with Makoto's nonsense, handed the photo to Sarada.

"What is this?" Sarada glanced down at the picture.

It showed a blonde boy with whiskers laughing next to a buff guy with swords.

It seemed perfectly normal.

Why did her dad look like his entire family got slaughtered again when he saw it?
