We found the files at three in the morning in a location so obvious we'd both overlooked it for hours: Hunt's personal cloud storage, password-protected with my mother's maiden name and the year she died.
Kael had been the one to guess it, had typed it in with hands that were steadier than mine, and when the archive opened to reveal hundreds of documents organized by date I'd had to sit down and remember how to breathe normally because this was it, this was everything Hunt had promised and more, and he'd left it accessible in case something happened to him.
In case someone killed him before he could give it to me directly.
"Start with the video files," Kael said. He stood behind my chair with his hands on my shoulders, grounding me while I navigated folders that contained my mother's entire history with the Council. "If Hunt recorded her, that's where we'll find answers."
