She knew it the moment it happened — the moment her composure did the thing she had been preventing it from doing for the last twenty minutes, the fracture that was invisible to everyone except a man who had been watching her face with clinical precision for the last half hour.
Fenris saw it.
She watched him see it.
"Miss Cole," he said quietly. "I'm going to need you to come with me."
Hazel lifted her chin.
"What do you mean " She relied quizzically, "are you trying to imply that I'm responsible for this simply because I'm studying the bottle? "
Fenris fixed her an hard glare. "Miss Cole you went to my colleague yesterday, saying you thought you were pregnant, and suddenly you stood up and refused the pregnancy test, you took a bottle on his shelf with you "
She stood. Smoothed her dress with both hands. Looked at Fenris with incredulity and opened her mouth to say something that would buy her the next five minutes.
