In truth, Hagoromo should absolutely not have been allowed anywhere near infants under six months old.
—or even under six years old.
While nothing in the world was truly absolute, this particular matter came dangerously close.
Because Hagoromo was, in every sense of the word, dangerous.
If the medical staff responsible for caring for the twins—or the ANBU assigned to guard Naruto—had truly understood what was happening, they should have thrown Hagoromo out of the hospital without hesitation.
Driven by the belief that education must start early and that everything should be won at the starting line, Hagoromo had already begun his so-called "training" of the two infants.
He was—
Electrocuting the babies.
Actually electrocuting them. No exaggeration.
To be fair, this was Naruto's fault.
Inspired by their first meeting, Hagoromo had a sudden flash of inspiration—followed immediately by a lapse in judgment—and began wondering whether lightly shocking babies might help strengthen their physiques.
To support this idea, he dug up numerous theoretical justifications and even discussed the matter with a certain well-known scientist. Gradually, he convinced himself that this was a feasible approach.
Then he began applying very weak electrical currents to stimulate the infants' bodies.
In Hagoromo's view, premature babies were physically frail. Since both children would inevitably become ninja in the future, proper "conditioning" from infancy was essential.
He called this nurturing.
The Konoha Women and Children Protection Foundation, however, would have unanimously classified it as outright abuse—and a textbook example of idiotic decision-making.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, Hagoromo acted with extreme discretion. After all, if ANBU or the Hokage discovered that he was electrocuting a jinchūriki every day, how would he even explain it?
That he was building a magnetic storm coil?
In short, he was very careful.
Every day, just a little shock—never too much.
After his berserk state subsided and his abilities stabilized, Hagoromo's fine control over electric currents returned to perfection. Micro-level manipulation posed no problem whatsoever.
Unfortunately, environmental limitations restricted what he could truly do. Otherwise, he could probably hack into an enemy nation's central processing system in minutes.
His justification was always "for the children's sake."
But honestly…
Kushina really shouldn't have let him near babies.
Yet these two children—Naruto in particular—were absurdly tough. After gradually becoming accustomed to it, they actually grew dissatisfied if they weren't shocked every day.
Between feeding, sleeping, and electrocuting the twins, Hagoromo's injuries slowly healed.
During this time, Danzō's handling of the Uchiha Clan was also finalized.
In the end, he didn't dare take things too far—he merely forced the Uchiha into complete physical concentration within a designated area.
By nature, the Uchiha preferred to cluster together anyway. But choosing to gather and being forcibly herded were entirely different matters.
Danzō's goal was simple: easier surveillance.
For the proud, arrogant red-eyed clan, was that something they could tolerate?
Surprisingly—
They did.
But resentment continued to fester beneath the surface.
That was as far as Danzō could go. He took no further action.
Without Uchiha Shisui, if the Uchiha Police Force clashed directly with Root, Root would likely be suppressed.
If Shisui sided with his clan, Root would be utterly crushed.
But for the Uchiha, the cruel reality was this: aside from their own clan, the entire village stood united.
If they acted, their enemy would not be Root alone.
Even combat power like Hagoromo would inevitably fall on the opposing side.
Thus, even as powerful as the Uchiha were, they had no choice but to swallow their anger—for now.
As external threats faded, internal dangers began to rise.
At this point, Konoha felt like a nest of suppressed schemes, with every faction holding its breath, waiting to see who would crack first.
Hagoromo was a freak, yes—but by birth, he was merely an ordinary ninja.
Clan politics and conspiracies should have had nothing to do with him.
But as a ninja, there was one word that bound all unrelated matters together.
That word was "mission."
After several months of recovery, Hagoromo finally emerged from his mummy-like state.
When the bandages were removed, the medical ninja who had repeatedly convened expert consultations for him all froze in disbelief.
What the hell?
Wasn't he supposed to be disfigured? Electrocuted half to death, nearly blown apart—
Fine, not disfigured, we'll count that as a victory for face-control culture.
But not even a scar?
How was that possible?!
His utterly unscientific recovery immediately sent some medical ninja into existential crisis. One declared that the patient showed no respect for pathology and angrily threatened resignation.
Others believed their skills insufficient and planned to retrain from scratch.
Still others declared they would change their surname to Hagoromo's.
At this rate, the Kamishiro Clan might soon expand into a major lineage.
Hagoromo, modest as ever, stated that he didn't need that many clansmen.
…Ahem.
In any case, a ninja like Hagoromo barely regained mobility before being assigned work—despite having absolutely no desire to work.
Ninja pay was high, but money itself rarely mattered. Missions were less about profit and more about the inevitability of orders.
This mission, in particular, was one Hagoromo was merely tagging along on.
After all, he had nothing better to do—he spent his days "taking care" of children.
Strictly speaking, the children weren't his responsibility. The Uzumaki siblings were well cared for in the hospital.
He simply visited daily.
And shocked them.
Sometimes, when he saw them crying, he felt helpless.
Sometimes, when he saw them smiling, he felt just as helpless.
...
"We've gathered you today for a simple reason. I trust you've all heard—Konoha has recently experienced a series of ninja disappearances…"
The Third Hokage addressed the assembled shinobi.
This was a joint investigation mission. Hagoromo's participation was incidental, yet the looks directed at him were noticeably different.
After the Fourth's death, the Third had resumed full control of the Hokage's authority—but he looked exhausted.
He was aging.
With the war nearing its end, Konoha no longer gave the impression of unity. Suppressed issues were surfacing one after another.
The Hokage had too much to worry about.
"Despite deploying a large number of ANBU, we've made no progress. We require your assistance."
Standing near the back of the crowd, Hagoromo immediately understood who was responsible.
Ninja disappearing?
Look for Orochimaru—you wouldn't go wrong.
The answer seemed obvious to him, but that was because his perception of Orochimaru was flawed.
His image of Orochimaru came from the man's future role as a villain.
At present, Orochimaru was still one of the Three Legendary Sannin—a respected Konoha shinobi.
Cold, obsessed with ninjutsu, yes—but his extreme fixation on forbidden techniques had yet to surface.
Or rather, he had concealed it perfectly.
Orochimaru didn't pursue immortality itself
