Just as Minato was about to ask Mikoto what was going on, several figures suddenly blocked his path.
Minato's gaze swept over them. They were all teenagers, their clothing bearing the Uchiha Clan's emblem, which resembled a table tennis paddle.
"Namikaze Minato!"
The leader, a young man with a furious expression, glared at him. "What's your relationship with Mikoto?"
So it was about Mikoto after all.
A flicker of understanding crossed Minato's eyes. He could understand young men's jealousy over a girl, but he didn't appreciate their aggressive attitude.
"You are—"
"I'm Uchiha Homura, a Chūnin in the Police Force!"
A Chūnin—
Running up to the man who had just slain the Third Kazekage to make a scene.
This clan was so reckless that even the author would be criticized for writing them as mentally deficient.
They should just rename themselves the "Uchiha Reckless Clan." Where did their brains go?
Still, Minato only grumbled inwardly. "Uchiha" originated from a variation of "fan," referring to the Uchiha Clan's emblem.
There was another layer of meaning: I, we, my side—
Understood this way, the Uchiha Clan's name became quite interesting.
Uchiha Itachi: I'm the weasel.
Uchiha Sasuke: I'm his father's father!
No wonder they were wiped out—
"So what? What's my relationship with Mikoto—and what's yours?"
Minato sized up the arrogant-looking youth before him, his tone calm but his words cutting.
The phrasing was a bit awkward, but Minato figured the other man would understand his meaning.
"What did you say?"
Uchiha Homura erupted in fury. "I warn you, Mikoto is engaged to the Clan Heir! If you know what's good for you—"
"Engaged—Did Mikoto agree to this?"
Minato suddenly interrupted, tilting his head slightly to look at Uchiha Homura, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Uchiha Homura froze.
"To be honest, Mikoto and I are dating. Given her personality, if such an engagement truly existed, she wouldn't have kept it from me. But she never mentioned it."
Minato chuckled, crossing his arms with an air of relaxed confidence. "Even if there were something, it wouldn't matter. Mikoto is the one I love. Anyone who dares to force her... I'll kill them. You want to try?"
"Stop spouting nonsense!" Uchiha Homura waved his hand furiously. "I've heard about you! You're tangled up with that Uzumaki girl, and you still have the nerve to come and bother our Uchiha girls—"
Minato tilted his chin, his voice dripping with pride. "That's right. I'm dating them both. And they agreed. What's the problem?"
Pfft!
The owner of the tamagoyaki shop by the road, who had been watching the commotion with a cup of tea in hand, spat out a mouthful.
Even Homura and the others looked stunned, clearly shocked by the news.
"Now, get out of the way," Minato said, his voice leaving no room for argument. Slowly, he raised his index finger, and a dazzling light erupted from its tip.
"Otherwise... you die!"
Uchiha Homura's face flushed crimson, but he hadn't completely lost his mind. He knew Minato was far beyond his ability to provoke.
Clenching his fists, he glared at Minato through gritted teeth, while the others behind him adopted a united front of shared indignation.
Reason told them that even if they attacked together, they wouldn't stand a chance against Minato.
But their pride left them in an awkward position, unable to back down without losing face.
Fortunately, at that moment, a figure suddenly appeared on the scene.
Uchiha Fugaku arrived just in time, stepping in front of Minato. His stern expression fixed on Homura and the others, he demanded, "What do you think you're all doing here?"
"Brother Fugaku!"
Seeing Fugaku arrive, the group immediately found their backbone.
Homura pointed at Minato and accused, "This guy provoked Mikoto—"
"What business is that of yours?" Fugaku cut him off. "I heard everything that just happened. Who told you Mikoto and I have a betrothal?"
Fugaku barked, "And even if we did, what of it? If she doesn't like you, are you going to force her? Have you forgotten you're part of the Police Force? Do you think you're bandits?"
Hearing this, the youths lowered their heads in silence.
"Go back and write a self-reflection!" Fugaku snapped, his voice deep and authoritative. It was clear he commanded considerable respect among the Uchiha youth, and they didn't dare argue, slinking away dejectedly.
"My apologies, Lord Minato," Fugaku said, turning to Minato with a hint of regret in his voice. "These youngsters are quick to jump to conclusions and caused a misunderstanding. I offer them my apologies."
"It's alright," Minato replied, shaking his head. "I was just curious—when you mentioned a misunderstanding, Senior..."
Fugaku sighed. "As you likely know, Bloodline Clans often intermarry to preserve the purity of their Bloodline Limits, fostering close ties between families. My father greatly admired Mikoto and once jokingly suggested she marry into our family, but it was merely a joke."
Minato looked at Fugaku, his eyes filled with curiosity. "Then, Senior—"
"Don't laugh, but I'm a rigid person, not good with words. My mind is always focused on cultivation, leaving no time for such matters."
Fugaku shook his head helplessly. "Mikoto is five years younger than me. I've always treated her like a sister. These guys claim they're standing up for me, but they're just interested in Mikoto and are afraid to express it because of the rumors. They're just using this as an excuse to vent their frustration."
"I see—"
Minato nodded. The man was likely telling the truth.
Though in the original story, Fugaku and Mikoto are a couple, that must have happened later. At seventeen, Fugaku's preferences should still be developing upward. And given his personality, an arranged marriage by the clan seems more likely.
"Mikoto is quite popular in our clan."
Seeing that Minato wasn't angry, Fugaku forced a friendly smile, but it looked stiff and unnatural.
"When you brought Mikoto home yesterday, your behavior was rather intimate. Some clan members saw it, and the news spread this morning. That's what set these guys off."
Uchiha Fugaku shook his head. "I'm truly sorry—"
"Not at all."
Minato waved his hand lightly, offering a polite apology. "No, I should be the one apologizing. I lost my temper earlier and offended the honor of the Uchiha."
"You are too kind," Fugaku replied, his expression softening further. "I assure you, such incidents will not occur again. I hope Lord Minato will not dwell on the actions of those fools. Let's stay in touch—"
As they were talking, a figure hurried over.
It was Mikoto. Seeing Minato and Fugaku conversing without any apparent conflict, she gradually slowed her hurried steps.
"Minato, Brother Fugaku," Mikoto said, quickly approaching Minato. "I heard someone was causing you trouble?"
"It's nothing, just a misunderstanding," Minato replied, affectionately smoothing her slightly disheveled hair. "Get ready, we have a mission."
"Right!"
Mikoto didn't ask further questions. She quickly gathered her things, and Minato bid farewell to Fugaku.
Watching their retreating figures, Fugaku let out a long sigh of relief.
