Chapter 187 - Chapter 187: A leak in the organisation

The jet touched down with a smooth, controlled glide.

No turbulence.

No delay.

Just a quiet return to reality.

Leah felt it instantly.

That shift.

The moment the wheels met the ground, something inside her settled—but not in the same way it had during their time away. The lightness of the past few days faded, replaced by something heavier. Something familiar.

She sat by the window, watching as the runway stretched endlessly beneath them, the city slowly rising in the distance like it had been waiting.

"…We're back," she murmured softly.

Beside her, Izana didn't answer right away.

His hand was still wrapped around hers.

Warm.

Steady.

Unmoving.

After a moment, he spoke.

"Yes."

Just one word.

But it carried weight.

Leah's fingers tightened slightly around his, as if holding onto something that hadn't fully disappeared yet.

The engines slowed.

The jet came to a stop.

Silence filled the cabin, broken only by the distant movement outside—the crew, the shifting of machinery, the opening of doors.

Everything was returning.

Everything they had left behind.

They stepped off the jet together.

Izana didn't let go of her hand.

Not once.

The air outside was cooler.

Sharper.

It grounded her in a way she hadn't expected.

And waiting for them—

Exactly where he always seemed to be—

Was Dante.

Leaning against the car.

Arms crossed.

Casual.

But not relaxed.

His eyes were already on them before they even reached him.

"Took you long enough," he said, pushing himself off the car.

Leah gave a small smile.

"We had a wedding. And a honeymoon. I think we're allowed to take our time."

Dante smirked faintly.

"Yeah. I figured."

But the moment passed quickly.

Because his attention shifted.

Straight to Izana.

And stopped.

His gaze narrowed slightly.

Focused.

"…What happened to your head?"

Leah answered before Izana could.

"He hit it on a rock."

Izana's eyes flicked toward her briefly.

Leah crossed her arms, her tone firm but not harsh.

"Don't say 'nothing' when it's not nothing."

Dante watched that exchange carefully.

Not missing a single detail.

Not the way Leah spoke—

And definitely not the way Izana didn't shut it down.

That alone said more than either of them realized.

"…You should've had that checked," Dante muttered.

"I'm fine," Izana replied, his tone flat.

Dante held his gaze for a moment longer than necessary.

"…You say that a lot."

There was something behind that line.

Something quieter.

But heavier.

Izana didn't respond.

Didn't need to.

The silence between them stretched, thin but noticeable.

Then Dante opened the car door.

"Get in."

Leah slid into the back seat first.

Carefully.

Her movements slower than usual, though she tried not to make it obvious.

Izana followed immediately after, sitting beside her.

Close.

Always close.

The door shut.

The outside world disappeared again.

But this time—

The quiet inside the car didn't feel peaceful.

It felt… tense.

The engine started.

The car pulled away.

For a while, no one spoke.

Leah leaned slightly toward Izana, her shoulder brushing his. Their hands found each other again without effort, fingers slipping together naturally.

Familiar.

Grounding.

She glanced at him briefly.

His gaze was forward.

Focused.

Unreadable.

That soft warmth from earlier—the one she had seen on the jet, the one she had felt when he leaned against her and spoke about the future—it hadn't disappeared.

But it had shifted.

It always did.

The moment they came back here.

Then—

Dante broke the silence.

"I need to talk to you when we get back."

Leah's gaze lifted slightly.

Izana didn't hesitate.

"Say it now."

Dante's hands stayed steady on the wheel.

"No."

A pause.

Izana's tone sharpened—just slightly.

"…It's just us."

Dante glanced at him through the rearview mirror.

His expression didn't change.

"It needs to be in private."

The words landed firmly.

Not aggressive.

Not emotional.

Just final.

Izana didn't argue.

But something in him shifted.

Leah felt it instantly.

His hand tightened slightly around hers.

Not enough to hurt.

Just enough to say everything he wasn't.

She turned her head slightly toward him.

"…Is something wrong?" she asked quietly.

Izana didn't look at her.

"No."

The answer came easily.

Too easily.

And yet—

She didn't believe it.

Not completely.

Leah studied him for a moment longer.

Then let it go.

For now.

Silence returned.

But it was different now.

Heavier.

More deliberate.

Then—

Dante spoke again.

Lower.

More serious.

"Something's off."

Izana's gaze sharpened.

"Explain."

Dante exhaled slowly.

"Not here."

A pause.

Then—

"We might have a leak."

The words settled into the space like something irreversible.

Leah's breath caught slightly.

Izana didn't react immediately.

But then—

He went completely still.

Not tense.

Not visibly.

But… controlled.

In a way that felt far more dangerous.

The warmth from earlier didn't disappear.

But it stepped back.

Replaced by something colder.

Sharper.

This was a different version of him.

Not the man who rested his head against her.

Not the one who kissed her stomach and spoke quietly about a future.

This was the man who ruled everything waiting for them ahead.

"…Who?" he asked.

His voice was quiet.

Even.

But it carried weight.

Dante's grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly.

"That's what I'm trying to confirm."

The car continued forward, the city passing by in a blur.

Familiar streets.

Familiar territory.

But the atmosphere inside the car felt anything but normal.

"Information's been moving where it shouldn't," Dante added.

A pause.

"Someone's talking."

Leah sat still.

Listening.

Understanding.

Even if she didn't know the details—

She understood what it meant.

And more importantly—

She understood what it meant for Izana.

Her gaze shifted toward him again.

He looked exactly the same.

Calm.

Collected.

Unshaken.

But she could feel it.

The shift.

The calculation already happening behind his eyes.

The quiet danger settling back into place.

Her fingers tightened around his.

Just slightly.

A silent reminder.

He wasn't alone.

Izana's hand responded.

A subtle squeeze.

Acknowledging her.

Without looking.

Without breaking focus.

The car slowed slightly as they approached the familiar gates.

Tall.

Imposing.

Guarded.

The entrance to everything Izana controlled.

Everything he protected.

Everything that could now be threatened.

As the gates began to open—

Slow.

Deliberate—

Izana finally spoke.

"Find them."

His voice was quiet.

But final.

Dante nodded once.

"I will."

A pause.

Then Izana added—

"Before they become a problem."

Dante's tone remained steady.

"Already working on it."

The car rolled forward.

Through the gates.

Into the long drive leading to the mansion.

Leah watched the building come into view.

Large.

Cold.

Unyielding.

So different from the place they had just left behind.

She glanced at Izana one more time.

Really looked at him.

At the man beside her.

The one who could hold her so gently—

And still command something so dangerous without hesitation.

Her voice was soft when she spoke.

But certain.

"…You'll handle it."

Not a question.

Not doubt.

Just trust.

Izana turned his head slightly toward her.

And for a brief moment—

Just a moment—

Everything softened again.

Only for her.

"Yes."

The car came to a stop.

And just like that—

They were home.

But this time—

Something was waiting for them inside.
