Chapter 158 - Chapter 158

The dust settled over the Worth Woodsea.

The colossal stone legs of Nirvana lay in ruins, fractured into massive boulders that crushed the forest canopy.

The ancient city was nothing more than a graveyard of broken rock and twisted roots.

Ace stood up and brushed gray ash from his coat. The air tasted like dirt and ozone, but the sickening pressure of dark magic was gone.

The morning sun breached the treeline, casting long shadows across the devastation.

He looked down at his D-Tector.

The device hummed with a steady, quiet rhythm.

"Hibiki," Ace spoke into the silent forest, knowing the Archive link was still active. "Is everyone in one piece?"

"We're banged up, but we're alive," Hibiki's voice echoed in Ace's mind. "I pinned everyone's locations. We're converging on a clearing about a mile from the Cait Shelter guildhall. Head north. The Magic Council's Rune Knights just arrived on the perimeter to secure the unconscious Oración Seis members."

Ace climbed over a shattered stone pillar and began the trek through the ruined forest.

The walk took about twenty minutes.

He navigated through uprooted trees and deep craters until he heard the familiar, loud voices of his guildmates.

He pushed through a thick cluster of bushes and stepped into a wide clearing.

The Allied Forces were gathered near a small stream.

Natsu lay flat on his back, staring up at the sky. "I'm never riding a walking city ever again. I think my stomach is still up in the clouds."

"You didn't even do the steering, ash brain," Gray said.

He sat on a rock, wrapping a bandage around his bicep.

He was, as usual, missing his shirt. "Stop complaining. We won."

"I'll fight you right now, ice stripper!" Natsu jumped to his feet, ignoring his bruises.

"Would you two give it a rest?" Lucy sighed.

She sat by the water, her hair a mess and her clothes covered in mud, but a relieved smile stretched across her face.

"We survived the Oración Seis. Can we just enjoy a few minutes of peace?"

Erza stood nearby, talking in low tones with Jura and Lyon. When she saw Ace approach, she offered a firm nod.

"Ace," Erza greeted him. "Hibiki told us you managed to break the sixth lacrima crystal. You did well today."

"We all did," Ace said, walking over to join the group. He looked around. "Where's Wendy?"

"I'm right here!" a small voice called out.

Wendy ran into the clearing, holding Carla tight against her chest.

Her dress was ripped at the hem, and she had a scratch on her cheek, but her brown eyes shone with happiness.

She ran straight to Ace and wrapped her arms around his waist in a tight hug.

"Thank you, Ace-san," Wendy said, her voice muffled against his coat. "Thank you for saving my guild. If it wasn't for you and the others, we would have lost everything."

Ace patted her head, a faint smile on his face. "You don't need to thank me, Wendy. You played a big part in this victory. You saved Erza, and you supported the front line. Be proud of yourself."

Wendy pulled back, wiping a tear from her eye. "I want to go home. I want to tell Master Roubaul that everyone is safe."

Jura stepped forward, leaning heavily on his staff. "That sounds like a fine idea. We should pay our respects to the master of Cait Shelter and inform him that the threat of Nirvana has passed. The Rune Knights have Brain and the others in custody. Our mission is done."

The group gathered their meager belongings and began the short march toward the Cait Shelter guildhall.

Natsu and Happy argued about what kind of fish they wanted to eat when they got back to Magnolia.

Lyon and Gray traded insults, while Sherry swooned over Lyon's bruised face.

Even the Trimens seemed less obnoxious as they offered Lucy a spare handkerchief.

Ace walked near the back, his hands in his pockets.

He watched Wendy skip ahead, her face bright with anticipation.

He knew the truth about Cait Shelter and the ancient Nirvit people.

He kept his expression neutral, but a knot tightened in his chest.

The victory they just won came with a heavy price for the young Dragon Slayer, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.

The trees parted, revealing a quaint, rustic village nestled in a lush valley. Wooden tents and cloth pavilions dotted the landscape. The members of Cait Shelter were already gathering at the entrance to the village, cheering and waving as the Allied Forces approached.

"Wendy!" a woman in tribal clothing called out, running forward to embrace the young girl.

"You did it, Wendy! We're so proud of you!" a burly man cheered, raising his mug.

Wendy beamed, introducing Natsu, Lucy, Erza, and the rest of the alliance to her friends.

The crowd parted as an old man wearing elaborate, feathered tribal robes walked forward.

Master Roubaul smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

"Welcome, brave mages of the Allied Forces," Roubaul said. His voice was warm and carried a soothing resonance.

"You stopped the Oración Seis and laid Nirvana to rest. For that, you have our deepest gratitude."

"It was a team effort, Master Roubaul," Erza said, stepping forward to offer a respectful bow.

"Wendy was a crucial part of our alliance. She represents your guild with honor."

Roubaul looked at Wendy, his expression softening. "Yes. She does."

The old master turned back to the alliance.

He took a deep breath. "Please, follow me. We have much to discuss, and there is a truth I must share with you all."

Roubaul led them to the center of the village.

The Cait Shelter members gathered around them in a wide circle. The wind rustled the fabric of the tents, but the village grew quiet.

"Nirvana was a terrible weapon," Roubaul began, looking up at the sky. "It was created four hundred years ago to end the wars that plagued this land. The intention was noble, the creators wanted to force peace by turning the hearts of evil men toward the light."

"But it didn't work out that way, did it?" Ace asked, stepping to the front of the group.

Roubaul shook his head. "No. Magic that forces a change in the human heart is unnatural. The people who created Nirvana were consumed by the very darkness they sought to erase. They fought among themselves, and their civilization crumbled. Those people were the Nirvit."

Lucy frowned. "The Nirvit? But... Wendy said Cait Shelter is composed of the descendants of the Nirvit."

"That is the lie I told her," Roubaul said, his voice heavy with sorrow.

He looked down at his weathered hands. "I'm not a descendant. I'm one of the original creators. I have lived as a spirit for four hundred years, watching over Nirvana, waiting for someone to destroy it and free me from my sins."

Wendy froze as the smile vanished from her face. "Master... what are you talking about?"

"I'm sorry, Wendy," Roubaul said, looking at the young girl with profound sadness.

"Cait Shelter doesn't exist. It never did."

The old man raised his hands.

A faint, glowing light rippled across the village.

The Allied Forces watched in stunned silence as the fabric tents began to fade, turning into wisps of magical energy.

The wooden structures dissolved into thin air.

Then, the people began to vanish.

The woman who had hugged Wendy faded away. The burly man cheering with his mug disappeared like a ghost. One by one, the smiling faces of the Cait Shelter guild members turned translucent and scattered into the wind.

"No!" Wendy screamed, reaching out to grab the air where her friends had stood. "Stop! What's happening?!"

"They're illusions," Ace said softly.

He didn't look away from the heartbreaking scene. "Roubaul created an entire guild using his magic."

"Why?" Natsu demanded, his fists clenched. "Why would you do a fake guild?"

"Seven years ago, a young boy brought Wendy to this valley," Roubaul explained.

His own body was starting to glow with the same translucent light. "He asked me to take care of her. I couldn't bear to leave a child alone in the ruins of a forgotten civilization. She need a home. So, I used my illusion magic to create a family for her. I created Cait Shelter."

Wendy fell to her knees, crying. "No... please don't go. You're my family! You can't leave me alone!"

"You aren't alone anymore, my child," Roubaul said, offering her a gentle, transparent smile. "I created these illusions because you needed them. But look around you, you don't need fake friends anymore. You found real companions! You found people who will stand by your side."

Roubaul looked at Erza, Natsu, and Ace. "Take care of her. Please."

"We will," Erza promised, her voice thick with emotion.

"Thank you," Roubaul whispered.

The old master closed his eyes.

His physical form dissolved into golden light, drifting upward into the clear morning sky.

Within seconds, the bustling, happy village was gone.

There was only an empty, grassy valley.

Wendy knelt in the grass, burying her face in her hands.

Her sobs echoed across the empty clearing. Carla landed next to her, wrapping her paws around the young girl, crying alongside her.

Gray looked away, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.

Erza walked forward.

She didn't offer empty platitudes or tell her to stop crying. Erza wrapped her arms around the trembling girl, pulling her into a fierce embrace.

"Cry, Wendy," Erza said softly, stroking the girl's dark blue hair.

"Mourn for the family you lost. But know this.... you have a place with us. If you want a home, Fairy Tail's doors are always open."

Wendy clung to Erza's armor, crying harder.

Ace watched them from a few steps away.

He shoved his hands into his coat pockets.

He had fought monsters, dark mages, and ancient walking cities, but moments like this reminded him that the heaviest battles in this world were often the emotional ones.

He walked up and placed a hand on Wendy's shoulder, offering a silent anchor of support.
