Chapter 64 - New Rules of the World

The rain didn't stop.

It never did anymore.

Sirens echoed through the city.

Sharp. Mechanical. Immediate.

"ALL UNITS—SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITY DETECTED."

Civilians scattered instantly.

No hesitation.

No confusion.

They had learned.

Because in this world—

You don't stay when power shows up.

You run.

Above the streets—

Drones locked onto a target.

Scanning.

Analyzing.

"LEVEL: UNKNOWN."

"THREAT: EXTREME."

A figure stood in the middle of the road.

Still.

Unmoving.

Maxruell.

He didn't look up.

Didn't react.

"…So this is how it is now."

In seconds—

Armored units dropped from above.

Perfect formation.

Weapons already aimed.

Not hunters.

Something new.

One of them stepped forward.

Sleek armor.

No wasted movement.

"Target confirmed."

A pause.

"Red King."

Maxruell glanced at them.

"…You talk too much."

The soldier raised a hand.

"Engage."

They moved instantly.

Faster than hunters.

More coordinated.

Energy blades activated.

Not guns.

Close combat.

Maxruell's shadows reacted—

But slower than before.

Still recovering.

Still adapting.

One soldier slipped through.

Too fast.

A blade cut across his side.

Blood.

Maxruell stepped back.

Eyes narrowing.

"…You're better."

The soldier didn't respond.

Just attacked again.

Meanwhile, Underground.

Juvy stood in front of a large map.

Marked zones.

Red areas everywhere.

Mara pointed at one section.

"Three cities wiped in a week."

Eli added:

"Not by Significants."

Juvy looked closer.

"…Then what?"

Mara's expression darkened.

"A new force."

The screen changed.

Footage appeared.

Armored units.

Moving like machines.

Fighting like they already knew the outcome.

One of them took down a Significant.

Clean.

Efficient.

No hesitation.

Juvy's eyes narrowed.

"…They're hunting us."

Mara nodded.

"They're not hunters."

A pause.

"They're something worse."

Back on the battlefield Maxruell dodged another strike.

Barely.

His shadows surged again More controlled now.

He grabbed one soldier mid-attack.

Slamming them into the ground.

Hard.

The armor cracked.

But didn't break.

"…Tch."

The soldier grabbed his arm.

Not panicking.

Not struggling.

"Adaptation confirmed."

Maxruell's eyes widened slightly.

"…What?"

The others moved in instantly.

Too fast.

Too precise.

A coordinated strike hit him from multiple angles.

He was forced back again.

Sliding across the wet street.

For the first time since the time skip Maxruell was being pressured.

"…This is new."

The lead soldier stepped forward again.

"We are the next evolution."

A pause.

"The world no longer needs to fear you."

Maxruell wiped the blood from his mouth.

"…That so?"

His shadows rose again.

Darker.

Heavier.

"…Then prove it."

Underground Juvy turned away from the screen.

"…I'm going."

Mara frowned.

"Going where?"

Juvy's voice was calm.

"To see it for myself."

Eli smirked slightly.

"Thought you'd say that."

Mara sighed.

"…Then we move smart."

Juvy nodded.

"No rushing."

A pause.

"No losing."

Back in the city—

The rain intensified.

Maxruell stood surrounded.

Outnumbered.

Outmatched Maybe.

But his eyes…

Still burned.

The new world had rules.

New weapons.

New enemies.

But one thing hadn't changed.

He didn't follow rules.

Darkness exploded outward.

The real fight began.

High above Mother Cain watched the clash.

Serah crossed her arms.

"They're already engaging him?"

Cain's eyes didn't leave the screen.

"Yes."

A faint smile formed.

"Let's see if the Red King can survive the new world."

Lightning struck again.

And below The battle escalated.
