What exactly was their connection to ancient Cultivation, dark magic, or primordial beasts...
Well, those matters were far too distant anyway. When faced with life and death, a person naturally had to prioritize survival above all else.
To live meant gradually improving ones circumstances and slowly finding the joys of life. If living simply meant merely existing, Ewan honestly would not be all that eager to stick around. After all, he had spent over a hundred thousand years as a wandering soul, merely existing in utter solitude.
