Chapter 300 - Chapter 297: The Clinic Doctor Is Cheating

After that, despite Jeanne's best efforts to argue that her body was perfectly healthy and that there was absolutely nothing wrong with her, she still couldn't win against the determined Lemuen. The Sankta was truly unsettled by what had happened; what kind of person sleeps for two days and two nights straight without any issues—and is impossible to wake up to boot?

"Didn't you also say my physical exam reports are way too unusual compared to a normal person's? Aren't you worried about the report leaking after the check-up?" In the car, Jeanne spoke with some concern to Lemuen, who was driving, as she looked at the fairly legitimate-looking hospital in front of them.

She had already learned from Lemuen about the previous test results: there wasn't a single trace of Originium in her blood. This didn't have much of an impact on Jeanne; after all, she was someone who dared to use Originium as "blue pots" (mana potions), and that stuff was broken down into mana as soon as it entered her body.

But regardless, she could guess how much of a shock such a report would be to a doctor. It was the kind of thing that would make a doctor go wild with excitement and start coming up with all sorts of "brain-opening" ideas. In a world where every living creature contains at least a trace amount of Originium, the sudden appearance of a "Pure Human" without a single speck of it was equivalent to discovering a species that had been extinct for tens of thousands of years.

If it were a doctor with a conscience, the worst-case scenario would just be them collecting some tissue samples to experiment and see if they could make ordinary people possess this kind of constitution. But if she ran into a doctor with a lower moral compass... scenes like those in Columbian movies, where someone is strapped to a test table for human experimentation, could become a reality.

"Don't worry, the place we're going this time is trustworthy. That doctor is one of our own." Hearing Jeanne's worries, Lemuen simply returned a smile and continued driving forward. Ahead was the trustworthy hospital she mentioned.

It was a building that didn't look very large, and from its exterior renovation, you couldn't tell it was a hospital at all; it looked more like a private residence. It was located at the junction of the slums and the lower district. Jeanne hadn't initially understood how Lemuen had found this place, until she saw the sign at the main gate.

It was a Laterano national emblem. The halo on it was shining brightly, just like the fluorescent tubes over a Sankta's head. The doctor responsible for receiving them inside was the same; the bright halo over their head revealed their identity—a Sankta doctor in Lungmen.

"Welcome, you two. I wonder how I can help you? Oh, Lemuen? I didn't expect to run into you here." The person who came to greet them was a woman with water-blue hair. This hair color was quite unique; Jeanne felt she looked somewhat familiar at first glance. But if she thought about it carefully, she shouldn't have met anyone with this hair color before. Where could it be? Her head was a bit muddled after that long sleep.

"Hello, Doctor Suzy. Please give this one a full-body check-up. She went to a rather dangerous place recently, so I want to be sure everything is okay." Lemuen gave Jeanne a pat on the shoulder. It seemed the two were quite familiar; perhaps they were former classmates? But the ages didn't seem to match! To be honest, the doctor looked at least ten years older than Lemuen; there was no way they were classmates.

"Oh, I see! I thought you were injured again. But why did the Church send you out again? With such heavy injuries, you should be resting quietly..." Hearing that it was just for a check-up, Jeanne could clearly see the doctor breathe a sigh of relief. Even so, she seemed to have quite an opinion about Lemuen appearing in Lungmen.

"This is a doctor I met a year ago when I was hospitalized. Her medical skills are great. She applied to be transferred to Lungmen for a period of time on her own." Lemuen noticed the confusion in Jeanne's eyes and introduced the doctor.

Through Lemuen's introduction, Jeanne learned that in some non-Laterano mobile cities, there is usually a clinic like this. Their fees are quite low compared to other large hospitals, and the Sankta race even enjoys free medical benefits in these hospitals, including Sankta Infectees. This is because medical care for Sankta is included in their thirteen civil rights, and all costs are covered by the Lateran Church.

"Hah, who would want to leave Laterano if it weren't for the sake of professional title evaluation! I heard one doctor even sent himself to Sargon just to run for hospital director. There are a few clansmen there who just watch crocodiles bare their teeth all day long. It's all for a living!"

Perhaps because she had been staying in this unfamiliar place for too long and was bored, the doctor started venting her grievances to the two of them as soon as she was introduced. While talking, she operated something on the computer, holding the card Lemuen had handed her—the one with Jeanne's photo on it. It was Jeanne's identification in Laterano, which also served as proof that she enjoyed civil rights.

"It actually exists, and it looks like her status isn't low at all!" The doctor inserted Jeanne's card into a special machine, and the result that popped up directly shocked her.

Looking at the long string of green lights under Jeanne's civil rights, and seeing that even the line stating she "can run for Pope" was green, she knew a real big shot had arrived. It looked like her promotion was in sight! Doctor Suzy stole a glance at Jeanne. For a non-Sankta to have such treatment, just who was the person standing in front of her?

"Alright, the procedures are complete. My friend, follow me upstairs for the check-up." Looking at the printed slip, she led Jeanne and Lemuen to the second floor. She was the only one working in this hospital. It couldn't be helped; there were naturally few Laterans in Yan, and not many came here for treatment in a day. As for other Infectees? Although the fees weren't high, it still cost money. If they had that kind of money, they'd rather eat something good than come here.

And so, for the first time in many years, Jeanne saw the medical equipment used in Terra. Well, she couldn't understand the use of any of those things at all. Jeanne was led through various instruments, having photos taken and whatnot, looking at the array of devices with curiosity.

Oh, right. In the end, two vials of blood were drawn for testing. Fortunately, the blood remained a bright red color when it left her body, without any strange phenomena like golden light bursting forth.

"I told you there was no problem, but you insisted on coming here for a check-up. Look, it's already dark." By the time the results came out, the sun had already set. The cold lights shone on the empty street, making it look as if there were no people around.

"It's better to be sure. Besides, it didn't cost anything. But the Originium content in your blood is still zero! I still remember the look the doctor gave you." Recalling the doctor's "Mom, come see a god!" expression, Lemuen couldn't help but laugh.

But in the end, those two precious vials of blood were destroyed. The doctor personally destroyed the blood samples with high heat right before their eyes.

"I had thought about that. My resistance to Originium is quite high." It was more than just high; she could even ignore the infectivity of Originium and completely treat it like a snack, occasionally chewing a piece to lift her spirits.

"Yeah, try to avoid check-ups for this kind of situation in the future. Luckily, you don't need blood tests when entering mobile cities, otherwise, you would have been exposed long ago."

The two of them left the place chatting, while the doctor in the hospital was currently following orders from above to delete the records on the instruments. This was why Lemuen hadn't brought Jeanne here while she was unconscious; tests here were connected to the network and linked to the main exchange in Laterano. Trying to link to the Laterano network in a place like this was undoubtedly extremely difficult. How exactly it was done was a secret even in Laterano.

"It seems she really is a big shot, for even the simplest physical exam report to be encrypted... Eh, she couldn't be the legendary Saintess, could she? I need to copy the surveillance footage and keep it for future generations..." Suddenly thinking of something, the doctor left the office with an excited look. She wanted to save this unforgettable record as an archive.

In the future, when she went out to brag, she could say she was the doctor who once treated the Saintess! That gimmick was enough for her to skip watching crocodiles in Sargon for fifty years; her position as deputy director was secure! What Cheating? She's simply stating the truth.
