I stiffened as the notification tone rang through the suite. My heart hammered in my chest, and I instinctively curled into the couch cushions, grabbing my phone with shaking hands. The message on the screen made my blood run cold:
"Anastasia, you'd better pretend nothing happened tonight, or you'll face the consequences. I've warned you. Think of our son."
My wolf growled low in my chest, a deep, instinctive warning that someone had dared to threaten my pack. Rage flared in my eyes as I read the second message cryptic, menacing, full of control and threats. Whoever had set this trap thought they could play me. They thought wrong.
I turned to Elliot, the Alpha of my life, standing like a shadowed guardian behind me. His dark eyes locked onto mine, tension radiating off him like heat. "Where's that jerk?" I snapped, my claws metaphorically unsheathed.
"Probably on his way to the police station," Elliot's voice rumbled, low and dangerous, every syllable dripping with authority.
