As the workday finally came to an end, my office phone rang, sharp and sudden in the quiet. I reached for it without thinking. "Good evening."
"Meet me at the parking lot in ten minutes," Elliot said, his tone brief and commanding, before the line went dead.
I stared at the receiver for a moment, my thoughts blank. Of all the things I expected, leaving work in his car wasn't one of them.
Still… the alternative was spending money on a cab.
And right now, I didn't have the luxury to refuse.
Ten minutes later, I grabbed my purse and made my way down to the parking lot. The black sedan was already there, waiting like it belonged to him—and somehow, everything about it felt like an extension of his presence. I opened the passenger door and slipped inside, the faint scent of him immediately surrounding me, subtle but impossible to ignore.
He didn't waste time. The moment I shut the door, the car pulled forward smoothly, heading toward the exit.
