Chapter 82 - Chapter 82: Illustrious Continent

The only option now was to strengthen Nightmare's power so Illustrious couldn't break free—yet the method required left Aircraft Carrier Hime blushing.

No matter! Success and her dream of becoming the Deep-Sea Queen were at stake; a little loss of face for the Abyssals was acceptable. Physical contact with those hated Ship Girls was disgusting, but Aircraft Carrier Hime had no choice—it was the only way to reinforce the nightmare and plunge Illustrious back into its grip.

Without hesitation Aircraft Carrier Hime stripped, then tore the clothes from Illustrious; the two exquisite bodies pressed tightly together.

She unleashed her special ability, Nightmare. Ribbons of pink light poured from her body, gathering into a five-meter sphere that enveloped them both.

Eyes closed, Aircraft Carrier Hime forced her consciousness into Illustrious's mind, delighted to find herself inside the dream.

Here she could twist the dream at will; once Illustrious despaired, she would fall to the Deep-Sea and become a loyal servant.

But as Aircraft Carrier Hime reached for control, Illustrious's soul network resisted—so fiercely it shocked her. The strength was easily S-rank.

A beam of white light shot toward Aircraft Carrier Hime; she answered with her own vast soul power.

The white light was too overwhelming. Within moments she was defeated and swallowed whole…

The boundless continent of light had been created by the creation goddess, Illustrious. She shaped seas and land, animals and plants, and the races of elves, dwarves, beastfolk, dragons, and humans.

Elves lived three millennia even in ordinary cases, beautiful and attuned to nature, unequaled in magic—yet proud beyond measure, disdaining all other races.

Dwarves were short and rugged, yet brilliant builders and artificers, crafting every tool imaginable.

Beastfolk bore animal traits—ears, tails—and possessed mighty bodies but lesser wits. Many were quick to fight, the hardest race to befriend.

Dragons were supreme, towering and iron-scaled, wielding draconic magic and able to take human form.

Humans were first called the lowest race: no elven magic, no dwarven craft, no beastfolk strength. Others pushed them into wild mountains. Yet humans had a unique gift—learning.

Their power to learn was staggering. They hoarded knowledge from every race, and with vast numbers, within three hundred years they seized the continent and drove all others into the northern wastes.

In the year 1204 of the Light Era, a being calling herself the Demon Goddess Aircraft Carrier appeared in the Radiant Temple. The two goddesses clashed in a war neither could win. To spite the creation goddess, Aircraft Carrier spawned demons, fiends, and monsters and ordered them to destroy the world.

To save it, the creation goddess made angels and bestowed a system of classes and cultivation upon every race so they could protect their homes.

Thus began the decade-long War of Light and Sky, whose battles between the two divine factions shook the world.

From time to time the goddesses themselves fought, until one day both vanished in their final duel.

Some say the creation goddess slew her rival and returned to her temple; others that she was killed and her temple usurped; still others that both perished together.

With their disappearance the war ended, leaving civilizations broken and the world in a Dark Age.

Fifty years passed before recovery began. Thanks to the cultivation system, humans grew stronger than ever and became uncontested masters of the continent—a dominance that holds to this day.

In the fertile south live most humans, divided among five great kingdoms. The weakest is the Kingdom of Nockman.

Once there were six southern kingdoms; the weakest, Rogeland, was recently swallowed by the mighty Kingdom of Gros.

Deep in the forest within Nockman's territory, five wagons roll toward the city of Karling. The first is luxurious, clearly beyond common means; the four behind are prison carts packed with girls aged four to twenty-five.

Inside the fine carriage sits a slave trader named Cole, forty, pig-eyed, fat-bellied, and jowly.

Those caged women are his treasures, bought cheap from fallen Rogeland's nobility. He means to sell them at great profit back home.

To Cole they are shining gold; once auctioned in Karling's black market, they will make him rich.

'Hey, Captain Garin,' Cole calls ahead, 'can we reach Sogarth, the last town before Karling, by dusk?'

Garin, a resolute man leading the guards, glances back. 'At this pace, barring trouble, we'll arrive by evening.'

Cole paid dearly for this escort. 'Then pick up the pace! I'll not sleep in this cursed forest!'
