Such an idiot.
"Get out!" My whole body shook with anger, my voice coming out sharper than I meant. My control was already thin, stretched too far by everything happening at once, and his laugh only made it worse. It felt like something inside me was pushing back, raw and restless, refusing to stay calm.
"Hahaha! Take care, Ms. Stovall." Nick laughed as he walked out, completely unbothered, like he had already won something I didn't even agree to play.
The door shut behind him, and the silence that followed was worse. My head started pounding again, sharp and steady, like a warning I couldn't ignore. I pressed my fingers lightly against my temple, trying to steady myself, but my thoughts kept slipping.
"Ms. Stovall," Stacey said carefully, watching me with concern. "Should we let AC Credit take over everything? Mr. Harrison doesn't seem reliable."
