My mind kept circling back to Nick's words. Was he talking about what happened that day? Cameron had asked me strange questions before, things I didn't understand at the time. I brushed them off then. But now, doubt started to grow where there had been none.
I looked at him and asked again, slower this time. "What do you mean?"
Nick gave a short, mocking sound. "You're really lucky you married Ashton with that level of awareness."
His eyes narrowed as he looked at me like I was something obvious he couldn't believe existed. "I told you before. You look too similar to my mother. Just like Rebecca does."
My brows tightened. "So what are you saying?"
He rolled his eyes. "People don't just look alike for no reason. Not in our world."
A cold weight settled in my chest.
Then he said it, plain and sharp. "My mother already took your DNA. And Rebecca's. She ran a comparison test."
I froze.
