"Do you know where Ms. Anderson is?" I asked, my voice low. I didn't trust Rebecca's words fully, so I needed to confirm everything from someone else.
"She was sending Rebecca to K City with Zachary. Oh, I think your mate went with them as well." Nick sounded awake, his tone steady. In the background, I could hear the soft, constant tapping of keys.
"Have they checked in with you from K City?" I asked, frowning slightly as I tried to keep my breathing even.
"No, why would they? I'm a nobody!" he shot back, a bit louder this time.
"I meant your mother, Cameron. Did she tell you they arrived safely?" I clarified, gripping my phone tighter. He was the only person I could reach in this circle.
A sharp sound came through the line, like something struck hard. "She hasn't spoken to me in over twenty years. She wouldn't tell me something like that. Why are you calling me this late? What's going on?"
