Judging from the way he reacted, Jared clearly didn't know about Macy's pregnancy. His tone, sharp and irritated, made that much obvious. "How about you tell me what happened between you two first?"
"Nothing happened," he said quickly, almost too quickly. He exhaled and returned to the documents in front of him, as if the topic itself was something he wanted to push aside.
I could tell he wasn't lying, but he wasn't ready to talk either.
After a brief hesitation, I tried again. "Dr. Crest…"
Before I could continue, his gaze shifted to my stomach. His expression softened slightly, and his tone changed into something more careful. "How have you been feeling?"
He meant the baby.
I nodded. "Pretty good."
"That's good." He opened a drawer and took out a small box of medicine, placing it in my hand. "Take these once a day. And keep to your normal routine."
