"No," I said firmly. "I never killed your child. I have never wanted someone else's suffering to ease my own. Your mother is still a powerful woman. If Cameron is innocent and built her wealth honestly, she will come out of the investigation clean. But if she was involved in dirty dealings, then she brought this on herself entirely."
Rebecca bit her lip and drew a slow, sharp breath. "Karma will find you one day!"
I almost laughed. "Karma? Your mother set a trap to eliminate her son's best friend's mate because you wanted that man for yourself. Now her name is in the dirt and her reputation is crumbling around her piece by piece. Tell me, Rebecca. What would you call that if not karma arriving exactly on schedule?"
Her jaw tightened. She grabbed her coffee and threw it at me. It wasn't hot, but it soaked through my clothes immediately, cold and deliberate. I stayed seated and looked at her without moving, without flinching, without giving her the reaction she was reaching for.
