Chapter 94: The Eye of God
Most of the ironware in Amigasa Village was crackling with electricity. Yukiko, Matsuri, and the others had already put away their blades, and even the samurai from the Tenguyama region had removed their armor.
The rumbling in the sky was constant, but surprisingly, it caused no damage. Most of the lightning bolts were drawn toward the steel pillars outside the town, a result of Ren's own control.
As for the Daimyo's residence, there were no major surprises there either.
However, some things had been permanently altered in nature by the two lightning strikes.
It was a gem. The once pale-blue gem had now turned a brilliant purple under the power of the lightning. Even the center of the translucent gem had developed a lightning-shaped pattern resembling three tomoe.
If Ren were to open his eyes now, he would be surprised to see the gem had completely taken the form of a Divine Eye. The lightning power contained within it was genuine and could be harnessed.
However, he was currently focused all his energy on battling the devil soul of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit.
The storm energy within his consciousness space had reached a level almost equivalent to lightning contamination. Fortunately, this environment was one he had created himself, so it did not affect him.
...
"What time is it now?" Yukiko asked.
She opened the window and looked out at the sky. The thunderstorm seemed to have weakened considerably, but the entire town had been shrouded in dark clouds since morning, so she had no idea what time it was.
"It's already five o'clock in the afternoon," Matsuri said, taking out a pocket watch she had bought overseas and glancing at it.
"Five o'clock? That means it's evening?" Yukiko took a second to convert Matsuri's "five o'clock in the afternoon" to Wano Country's timekeeping method and came to this conclusion.
But Matsuri quickly shook her head. "No, that's not right. Something's off."
She then noticed that the hands on her pocket watch were moving strangely. The hands themselves were not metal, but the gears inside the watch were. This was something Matsuri did not know. Due to the magnetic force, the watch was no longer accurate.
"It's broken..."
"It must be nighttime already. I've been hungry twice," Yayoi said, scratching her head.
Akane handed her a bowl of red bean soup to fill her stomach.
Because the situation was urgent, they didn't have time to prepare and were temporarily hiding together in Akane's teahouse.
"I wonder how things turned out," Yukiko worried. The thunderstorm was now gradually subsiding, but that didn't mean Ren had necessarily succeeded. In fact, regardless of which side won, the storm would slowly fade.
"I'm going to check on the Daimyo's residence now. You all wait here," Yukiko thought for a moment, then stood up and prepared to leave.
"I want to go too," Matsuri said quickly.
However, Yuriko and Keiko were a little worried. "Isn't it still too dangerous right now? The storm clouds haven't dispersed. What if another lightning storm suddenly happens?"
"But, if Master Ren is always mentally exhausted after fighting a demon in the consciousness world, and this battle even affected the real world..."
In short, Yukiko was very worried about Ren's mental state.
"I'll go check. You all wait here," Yukiko thought for a moment, then rushed out.
However, Ren was not feeling any discomfort at all. On the contrary, he had fully assimilated the Rumble-Rumble Fruit and was now slowly examining the gem, its nature permanently changed by the power of the lightning.
"A Divine Eye?"
He could feel the lightning power contained within the gem, but what puzzled him was that not every gem had undergone such a change.
He held two gems in his hand. Both were now purple, and he could feel the electricity emanating from them. The difference was that one gem did not have the white-purple lightning花纹 inside it.
Furthermore, the lightning within the gem without the pattern gave Ren a very inert feeling.
"Inactive lightning? A gem like this can't be used. As for this one..." Ren looked down at the gem with the pattern, an idea forming in his mind. "Yukiko is here. Let her give it a try."
In reality, Yukiko had just rushed out of Akane's teahouse.
Ren waited for a while before Yukiko finally burst into the Daimyo's residence, panting.
Seeing that Ren showed no signs of fatigue and was instead leisurely standing on top of a tall building in the residence, she breathed a sigh of relief and immediately threw herself at him, hanging off his body.
"I'm so glad you're safe."
"Worried about me?"
"Because the storm clouds wouldn't disperse," Yukiko said, sounding aggrieved. This was an expression she only showed when she was with Ren alone.
"I had forgotten about that." Ren remembered and quickly waved his hand to disperse the clouds. Only after they cleared did Yukiko realize it was already nighttime, with bright stars surrounding a narrow crescent moon.
"Let the others know the alert is over."
"Yes," Yukiko nodded and took out her snail to relay the message.
"Yukiko, take this." Ren set her down, had her stand straight, and then placed the gem with the lightning pattern into her palm.
When Yukiko gripped the gem, she felt a stinging sensation coming from it.
"Master Ren, what is this?"
"If it worked, then this is the Divine Eye. Try and see if you can release its lightning power."
"Release lightning power?" Yukiko asked in confusion. However, as she held the Divine Eye, she could indeed feel a force transferring from her palm into her body.
"A tingling sensation."
Tiny electrical arcs coiled around her fingers. Yukiko swung her arm and, to her surprise, released a weak bolt of lightning.
"You really did it."
She exclaimed. Although the bolt was weak, it was a power she had never possessed before.
"Perhaps it would be more effective when used with a weapon." Ren handed her Sandai Kitetsu from his waist.
After taking Sandai Kitetsu, the power of the Divine Eye seemed to be fully unleashed. The entire gem's brightness increased several times, and the lightning coiling around the blade was released with Yukiko's swing, forming a lightning slash.
"So strong. The power of the slash has increased so much," Yukiko marveled. "But, it seems to put a heavy strain on the body..."
