The battle between Kakashi and Obito continued.
After using Kamui's intangibility to avoid Kakashi's Raikiri, fear flashed through Obito's eyes. He had thought he could easily deal with Kakashi, but he hadn't expected the fight to drag on this long.
Kakashi was also stronger than he had imagined.
The combination of the Flying Thunder God Technique and Raikiri gave Kakashi terrifying speed, while the Sharingan allowed him to see through Obito's attacks.
On top of that, Might Guy was standing nearby like an eager beast waiting to pounce, putting Obito at real risk of getting overturned and losing face in front of this "trash." At that moment, Obito suddenly felt that ignoring Black Zetsu's suggestion to take back the Kamui Sharingan had been a terrible decision.
Gradually widening the distance, the moment his intangibility was released, Obito raised his palm and fired Wood Release spikes at Kakashi.
Without changing expression, Kakashi sliced through the wooden spikes, then threw out a special kunai crackling with lightning chakra. In the next instant, he teleported near Obito again and launched into close combat.
Against Obito's bizarre space-time ability, ordinary ninjutsu and genjutsu were useless. The only option was close-range combat.
Unfortunately for Obito, taijutsu had always been his weakness—even after more than ten years.
After using Flying Thunder God once more to shorten the distance, Kakashi's chakra was nearly exhausted. He panted lightly as he stared at Obito in the distance. The burden of maintaining both the Sharingan and Flying Thunder God was simply too much for him.
Obito saw through Kakashi's weakness and snorted coldly.
"That eye is nothing but a burden to you. Looks like after killing Rin with your own hands, you still haven't improved much."
Kakashi's expression froze, but he denied it flatly.
"There was a reason behind Rin's death. Kirigakure used her."
"Of course I know she was used," Obito said expressionlessly. "Back then, I slaughtered every Kirigakure ninja involved in that incident. I hate this cruel world. Trash like you could never understand that."
"I'll never let you destroy the world…"
As though he had finally made up his mind, Kakashi gathered chakra into his Sharingan and stared directly at Obito. A space-time vortex instantly twisted around Obito's body, tearing at him.
The next moment, Kakashi entered the Kamui dimension himself, confronting Obito inside the separate space.
"I didn't expect the other eye to possess an offensive Mangekyō ability…" Obito's face darkened slightly upon seeing Kakashi use Kamui against him, but he still raised his weapon.
As long as Kakashi experienced true despair, he would eventually choose to join him.
Obito wasn't completely certain, but he had already prepared himself to reclaim his eye. If Menma obtained both Kamui eyes, he might not even have a chance to escape.
However, Obito wasn't just dealing with Kakashi.
Might Guy was still attacking from the outside world.
That meant Obito's intangibility was no longer perfect. After taking a direct hit from Guy's Konoha Whirlwind, pain flashed across Obito's face, and in the next second, a sharp Chidori pierced straight through his chest.
Maintaining the posture of impaling Obito, Kakashi spoke with expectation in his voice:
"Surrender. I can persuade Lord Jiraiya not to kill you, and I'll atone together with you from now on."
"Atonement?"
Obito's eyes turned cold. Wood Release spikes instantly pierced through Kakashi's palm. Then he activated Kamui and escaped from the Kamui dimension. With Black Zetsu's support, he sank directly underground and disappeared.
Kakashi immediately tried to use Earth Release to pursue him, but underground Wood Release vines blocked his path.
After arriving in the Kamui space and failing to find Obito, Kakashi's face became ugly. He had nearly forgotten that Obito never acted alone. Besides Obito, there were also those mysterious white creatures.
After returning to the ninja world, Might Guy hurried over and asked:
"Kakashi, did you capture Obito?"
Kakashi looked at his pierced palm and slowly shook his head.
"I seriously injured Obito, but I won't be able to use ninjutsu for a while either. Obito's strength is even greater than I imagined. I suspect he intentionally let me stab him."
After a pause, Kakashi looked toward Konoha Village and sighed softly.
"Still… I'm more worried about Obito's safety. I really don't want anything to happen to him."
Guy looked confused.
"Obito is a traitor. Why are you still worried about him?"
Kakashi replied in a low voice:
"If I capture him alive, he still has a chance to survive. At worst, he could at least die peacefully. But someone wants to torture him to death. As his close friend, the only thing I can do is give him a painless ending."
Guy didn't continue questioning Kakashi. Instead, he looked toward the still-chaotic Konoha and turned around.
"Kakashi, we already drove away the masked man Obito. We probably don't need to carry out any more missions, right?"
Kakashi was silent for a moment before nodding. He understood what Guy meant.
Guy was a pure-hearted person. He didn't want to participate in Konoha's internal civil war, nor become a pawn in the hands of higher-ups. The only things he wanted to protect were Konoha itself and the companions living there.
...
Dozens of kilometers away from Konoha Village.
Obito hid inside a cave to treat his injuries. Although Kakashi's Chidori had pierced through his body, the damaged part belonged to White Zetsu and could be replaced at any time. It wasn't a fatal wound.
Compared to that, losing to Kakashi and Might Guy was far harder for him to accept.
After grabbing a White Zetsu and using it to fill the missing part of his body, Obito stared toward the cave entrance, thinking about his future plans.
This time, he had sneaked into Konoha to observe the Uzushio Village shinobi and determine Nagato's intentions.
But he hadn't expected to encounter Kakashi and Might Guy by chance. Kakashi had nearly destroyed the curse seal in his heart with Chidori, and his plan had completely failed.
Along with the sound of soil wriggling, Black Zetsu emerged from underground and looked at Obito, who was treating his injuries.
"Obito, your actions this time were disappointing. I told you long ago to retrieve the Mangekyō Sharingan left with Kakashi. You always found excuses to refuse, and now you've tasted the consequences."
Obito said nothing, merely staring coldly at Black Zetsu.
Black Zetsu continued expressionlessly:
"I won't bring this matter up again. But you'd better stay away from Kakashi from now on. Next time, you may not be lucky enough to escape."
"Besides, if we want to control Nagato before he completely slips out of our grasp, it's time for you to consider that plan."
Hearing this, Obito's expression changed repeatedly. He naturally knew what Black Zetsu meant.
The plan was to resurrect Madara Uchiha and allow him to personally lead the tailed beast collection plan.
Previously, neither Black Zetsu nor Obito had intended to implement it.
Both of them wanted Madara to remain sleeping forever.
But now, not only had a perfect Nine-Tails Jinchūriki appeared in the ninja world, even Nagato was beginning to lose control.
After thinking for a while, Obito whispered:
"I'll consider the plan."
