The doctor leaned back, clearly puzzled. "Normally after such trauma, the wolf aura becomes unstable or weakened. In her case… It's unusually steady."
Kade's attention sharpened further. "What does that mean?"
The doctor took a breath. "It means her wolf didn't just survive the poison." He looked directly at Kade. "It adapted to it."
The words lingered in the air. Marcus exchanged a brief glance with Kade. "Is that possible?" Marcus asked.
The doctor shook his head slowly. "Not under normal circumstances."
Kade looked down at Dakota again. She slept peacefully, completely unaware of the conversation happening around her. His hand moved unconsciously to brush a loose strand of hair from her forehead. The gesture was tender, a stark contrast to the storm brewing in his chest. "What are the consequences?" he asked quietly.
