Their silence was so different from their usual behavior that Victor could no longer ignore it.
"What is wrong with you two?"
Karl's fingers tightened slightly around the edge of the table. "Nothing."
Victor's eyes narrowed. "Then look at me when you answer."
After a moment of hesitation, Karl slowly raised his head. Victor immediately noticed the strange expression in his eyes. It wasn't embarrassment or annoyance, nor was it the irritation he had expected after the previous night's events. There was something heavier there, something that made the atmosphere around the table shift almost imperceptibly.
Ronan eventually lifted his gaze as well, but neither brother spoke.
Victor placed his cup down.
"What happened?"
Karl exchanged a long glance with Ronan before finally answering, his voice quieter than usual. "We don't know."
Victor's brows drew together. "What do you mean you don't know?"
