Ethan stared at him, momentarily surprised by the answer.
"They're already back?"
"Yes."
Instead of easing his concern, the confirmation only made him more anxious. If Gerald and Liam had already returned to Cross Estate, then why had neither of them come to the hospital? More importantly, what had happened to Cooper?
"What about Cooper? Did they bring him back with them? Did they say anything?"
The guard shook his head.
"I haven't heard anything about Cooper."
Ethan's expression tightened as he looked toward the breakfast bags and then back at the guard. He had been hoping that someone would at least be able to tell him whether his nephew was safe, but now he knew no more than he had before the guard entered the room.
"Can't you call someone at the estate?" Ethan asked. "They should know what happened. You can ask another guard to take over for you."
The guard gave him an apologetic look before answering.
