Cooper nodded, seeming satisfied with that answer for the moment. He leaned back against the pillows, his little fingers still curled around hers, and Takoda stayed beside him.
Before either of them could say anything more, the bedroom door opened, and Amelia Voss stepped inside carrying a small tray with Cooper's medicine. Lillian Voss followed close behind her, carefully carrying a warm bowl of porridge with both hands.
The smell reached Cooper almost immediately.
His eyes shifted toward the bowl.
Takoda noticed and smiled. "You're hungry."
Cooper looked at the porridge again and gave a small nod.
Amelia smiled when she saw him awake and approached the bedside. "That's a good sign, little one."
She placed the medicine on the table beside the bed while Lillian carefully set the bowl of porridge down beside it.
"Dr. Elias asked me to bring this," Amelia explained, picking up the medicine. "It should help with your pain."
