Dakota's hand rose to cover her mouth as a quiet sob escaped her. Kade immediately felt her body tense and tightened his hold around her, but before either of them could say anything, Takoda heard the sound and turned toward the doorway.
Her face immediately brightened.
"Mother!"
Cooper's eyes opened at the unfamiliar voice coming from the doorway, and he slowly turned his head. His gaze settled on the woman Kade was carrying, and he simply stared at her.
Dakota stared back.
For a moment, neither of them spoke. Dakota's heart seemed to stop as she searched his face, desperately looking for some small indication that he knew her, but there was nothing.
