He remembered Miriam leaving, and after that, there was nothing.
"What took you so long?"
"I went home and then Cross Corporate Tower."
The answer immediately caught his attention.
"Why?"
"I wanted to speak with Gerald and Liam as they had gone to the Company."
Ethan watched her carefully, waiting for the rest of the answer, but Miriam hesitated. That small pause was enough to make the uneasiness that had already been sitting inside him grow stronger.
"And?"
Miriam lowered her gaze for a moment before explaining that she had found both Gerald and Liam at the tower, but neither had been available to speak with her. They had been inside a meeting since earlier that morning, and according to the receptionist, the meeting could continue for several more hours.
Ethan listened quietly, but his thoughts had already moved to the question that mattered far more to him.
"And Cooper?"
The change in Miriam's expression was immediate.
