It was around five in the morning when Dakota suddenly jerked awake, her heart pounding as she struggled to catch her breath.
"My baby... Baby..."
Her eyes darted around the room before panic filled her expression.
"Cooper... Where is my Cooper?"
She immediately tried to get out of bed, but Kade woke at the movement and caught her before her feet touched the floor.
"Everything is all right. Calm down," he whispered, pulling her into his arms.
Before she could protest, he lifted her from the bed and carried her out of the bedroom. Dakota instinctively wrapped herself around him, her arms tightening around his neck as he carried her through the quiet corridor.
"Honey..."
"Shh... Calm down. Cooper is doing all right. The surgery was successful," Kade assured her, keeping his voice low and gentle.
