Chapter 20 - Devil Fruits, Trading and the Multiverse Chapter 20

Route 202 – Souta's Briefcase

- Souta -

We were resting in the briefcase after our journey through Route 202; the sun had started to set when we made our way inside, and since then I've just been making mystic fruit after mystic fruit. I lost track of how many I've had made so far until a notification from the system triggered, which was surprising since I hadn't heard from it in a while.

Create a total of 50 Mystic Fruits: Unlocks [Passive: Reactive Materials]

[Passive: Reactive Materials]

When the user is creating a mystic fruit, they may decide the outcome based on the reaction the materials used would have. In the case of more than 1 reaction, the user can choose the direction of the fruit's outcome; for example, using wood and fire as the materials, they may choose between smoke or charcoal as the outcome or use steel and oxygen as the materials to create rust.

While I technically combined materials already such as when I made the brush fruit, this gives me more freedom in deciding the outcome, plus this also allows me to create fruits that would be harder to obtain like smoke, mist etc.

Putting away the newest mystic fruit I made next to where I was storing the rest, and what a collection it was! All the newly made fruits were created from the extract I have collected in the Pokémon world so far.

[Type-Type Fruit Model: Fire]

The consumer of the mystic fruit gains the physiology of a Pokémon and gains the typing of the fruit eaten. This will also allow for evolution to occur; the number of evolutions will be based on the power of the consumer before eating the mystic fruit, up to a maximum of 3. Eating this mystic fruit negates [Passive: Will of Three]. This fruit can only be consumed by creatures and inanimate objects; inanimate objects will gain a sentience akin to a newborn Pokémon. The consumer may awaken the power of the fruit, granting them the ability to mega evolve until they run out of stamina.

Fruit Type: Typia

Fruit Used: apple

Weakness: Follows the rules of the Pokémon world.

Here are the fruits I had so far.

[Type-Type Mystic Fruits]

20x Fire, 5x Normal, 4x Flying, 5x Water, 4x Grass, 3x Poison, 3x Rock, 1x Dragon, 2x Electric, 1x Ice, 2x Dark, 1x Fighting, 2x Bug, 1x Steel, 3x Fairy, 2x Psychic, 1x Ghost, 2x Ground

[Pokémon-Pokémon Fruit Model: Houndour]

As a Special Zoan Fruit using a Pokémon spirit, the user gains the ability to use the type of energy the Pokémon and all its evolutions would use in their base form; the user loses the ability to enter hybrid form but gains the ability of linear evolution. This allows the user to use any evolution that the Pokémon would become at the cost of increased energy consumption for each evolution, with mega evolution applying the most strain on the user. This consumption can be lowered or mitigated through training their body to higher levels. The user can train to gain the abilities a Pokémon would usually gain.

Forms: Base form, Houndour, Houndoom, Mega Houndoom

Fruit Type: Special Zoan

Fruit Used: Peach

Weakness: Follows the standard weaknesses of the Pokémon world.

And this is what I have made so far using the spirits of the Pokémon.

[Pokémon-Pokémon Mystic Fruits]

2x Starly, 3x Magikarp, 3x Houndoom, 6x Houndour, 2x Magby, 1x Rapidash, 2x Ponyta, 2x Slugma, 1x Magcargo, 1x Charmeleon, 1x Torchic, 1x Vulpix, 1x Growlithe, 1x Cyndaquil, 3x Torkoal, 2x Swablu, 1x Piplup, 1x Chimchar, 1x Turtwig

With the mystic fruit I just put away, I had created a total of 109 mystic fruits so far; I know this because I triggered the system again at 100.

Create a total of 100 Mystic Fruits: Unlocks [World Restriction Lock: First Lock Removed]

[World Restriction Lock: First Lock Removed]

3 of the same fruits may now be consumed in any world; this does not affect Typia Fruits due to already having no restrictions.

It was nice to have fewer restrictions on the number of mystic fruits that could be consumed in each world; maybe one day there wouldn't be a limit.

Now, though, it was time to create number 110, a mystic fruit that I would be using if it worked out as I wanted it to.

Grabbing the linking cord, the extract from it for connection, the 2 connecting orbs I got from Lavinia as well as the extract from it for communication and finally a long thick chain that I picked up, another object that represented linking.

I placed all the objects together with the cord and chains wrapped around the loose objects before placing an apple next to them as I began the process; a short moment later, the mystic fruit formed.

The apple had a silver chain link pattern on the surface with each link having the standard swirl design, and the stem had split into 3 long cables that had ends that looked like they could be plugged into something.

Picking the apple up, I inspected it, finding exactly what I was aiming for, not surprising since the new passive allowed me to lean towards that choice.

[Tether-Tether Fruit]

The user can tether themselves to anything, though they require permission from sentient beings. Once tethered, the user can manipulate the tethered objects remotely; tethering to a building would allow them to control the building and everything connected within. If the user tethers to 2 buildings, they may travel to either building using any entrance. The user can use the abilities of everything they are tethered to and can use their own abilities through objects. Currently only 4 tethers can be active at once.

Fruit Type: Paramecia

Fruit Used: Apple

Weakness: If the user falls unconscious, all tethers are broken; sleeping does not count as unconscious.

This was exactly what I was aiming for ever since I was able to make it so inanimate objects could be fed fruits.

Holding the fruit in my left hand, I transformed my golden bracelet into its true form of a golden butterbur leaf, triggering the ability. I pushed the tether fruit against the butterbur leaf, and the fruit began to warp as it was absorbed into the leaf.

There wasn't a noticeable change when it was finished, but I knew what I could do. While holding the leaf, the stem elongated and formed a plug at the end. I plugged it into my palm, forming the first tether. The stem sunk into my flesh along with the entire leaf before splitting into fine threads as it snaked through the veins within my body until it was finished.

I could feel what could be done using the leaf's power, forming a sharp earth shard I sliced into my palm. Blood dripped down my arm, but my focus was on the cut. It was slow, but golden threads began stitching the wound back together; I could use the leaf's ability to heal over time on myself.

I didn't need to fear losing the tethers I made either; the leaf couldn't go unconscious, so the tether would exist forever as long as it wasn't destroyed completely.

Stepping out of the room, I make sure to lock it behind so none of the Pokémon sleeping accidentally eat the mystic fruits I had stored in there. Heading into the main room where the ladder was, I took a quick glance at the Pokémon who were snuggled up together next to the fire before making my way out.

After closing the lid to the briefcase, I let a golden thread snake out of the tip of my finger forming another plug and sink it into the briefcase, the thread broke off my finger and was absorbed into the briefcase, but I can feel the tether has formed a connection with me and the leaf, with a wave of my hand a rectangle windows opens in the air and looking inside I can see the room I just left before shifting it to show the shelves that stored the mystic fruits.

The spatial ability of the butterbur leaf works as I wanted it to, closing the window. I grab the briefcase off the floor and make my way over to a tree, calling on the power of the leaf. Golden threads began pouring out of my hand and creeping up the tree before forming the shape of a door from within the briefcase.

Opening the door and stepping through, I find myself in the lounge area of my store.

"Home sweet home." I say smiling.

I cut the connection to the door behind me, and the golden borders of the door began to unravel until it disappeared completely.

I had 2 tethers left, but I already knew what the next one would be, like I did with the briefcase. I created another tether and pushed it into the walls of the store, forming a new connection. I could access the store and briefcase from anywhere now using the spatial abilities of the leaf.

Another option I had now was to form random doorways to undiscovered worlds instead of needing to jump into holes to travel, but I didn't get to decide where the door appeared; on the other hand, I could choose where a doorway appeared in worlds I had been to as long as it was a place I had been to before.

Now that I had the tethers I wanted, I created a new doorway to my house; I was feeling hungry, and I'm sure the others were as well.

Unknown

- Arceus -

I felt it; for a short moment a rift appeared, energies from a land outside of my own. It was young, chaotic and disorderly.

Despite already knowing due to feeling the rift form, Giratina informed me that the one he was watching had left. Even with our differences in the past, he cared for the balance of the world as much as I did; he had kept his sight on the unique being that found itself walking my world.

Speaking of, I glance towards where the rift had formed and gaze through the veil between worlds, following the residue of energy that I felt from the rift in the moment.

A world came into view; I could see multiple dimensional pockets, each place holding multiple races and beings of power, none a threat to me or my children but fascinating, nonetheless.

Interesting, a few of the stronger beings had felt my glance in passing.

Glancing at the land the being had travelled to, I watch him for the moment before feeling a being of creation and death preparing to protect the land.

A roar of challenge pulls my gaze away as a dragon charges towards me. I can feel potent dragon energy rolling off the dragon, but it is much weaker than my children's.

Freezing the dragon in place, I say through the veil, "Peace, I was merely curious."

While the dragon struggled, 4 of the beings that had felt my glance appeared, looking around for me, while another remained watching from his seat of power; the 4 that appeared seemed shocked to see the dragon frozen in place.

Deciding to greet those that I had spooked with my presence, I stand as a shimmer appears in front of the beings; pushing my hoof through, I adjust my size to be a bit bigger than the dragon.

"Greetings!" I say to them as I release the dragon who has stopped struggling.

"Greetings, honoured one. I go by the Jade Emperor. Forgive me for my rudeness, but may I ask why you have graced our world with your presence?" The man spoke softly while cupping his hands and bowing towards me, which was followed by the others who had appeared with him. I could feel that they were worried.

"Peace, you have nothing to fear. I shall not harm you or this world, as I told the dragon here; I was merely curious. I felt the energy of this young world and wished to view it."

"My name is Izanami; is there a reason you gazed specifically into my homeland?" the one that felt of creation and death spoke. She was wary but willing to give her life to protect her land, honourable.

"I was intrigued at how similar the culture was to a land in my own world."

"Truly." she said, sounding shocked and intrigued.

"Yes, there are quite a few lands that exist here that seem similar to my own. Not surprising, it may be the design of a being higher than even myself, or it could be a coincidence. Seeing as the humans seem similar in both worlds, it might be a constant that follows them as a race in other worlds, though you have races I haven't the pleasure of seeing before."

"So, you're not here to destroy us all?" The man who spoke felt like a storm and was dressed similar to the people of Alola.

"No, you needn't worry about me destroying your world; I much rather prefer creating."

"Sounds good, it was nice meeting you." He nodded before teleporting away in a quake of thunder, causing the last person who hadn't yet spoken to sigh.

"I apologise for Indra's rudeness; I go by Shiva. It is a pleasure to meet you." He looked like a young boy; he had a calm smile, though the feeling he had was one of destruction and renewal.

"It is fine; I was the one to cause you all alarm after all. It is nice to see people care for their world. As much as I enjoyed the conversation, I believe it's time I made my way home. As a parting gift, I shall provide a slight boon to the one who protects the veil." I say, glancing towards the dragon as wisps of dragon energy drift from me into the dragon.

There was no visible change, but his power felt slightly stronger than before.

"RACE ME!" The dragon roared.

Sighing, I shake my head and step back into my world, making sure not to leave any traces behind.

Settling back down into my own space, I close my eyes only to open them as my youngest appears in front of me.

"Mew!"

Mew excitedly waved about a fruit that they were holding in their paws.

"Did you steal one of the beings' fruits?"

"Mew, Mew." They shook their head.

"Of course, you found it when they misplaced it; please do not eat the fru..."

I was too late; they ate the fruit.

Mew glowed for the moment; they still had the same shape, except the tips of their paws seemed to be made of iridescent crystal, the same for their tail, but the end became a 4-pointed star, and their eye colour had changed to match.

I felt as if Mews' energy had a mix of psychic/fairy; they were excitedly giggling and spinning in the air.

Sighing, I leave them to it; it would be easy to change them back if they ever begin to dislike it.

Turning to face the large mass of earth energy, I grab the link to the new species that wasn't of my creation and begin weaving in more of the species, spreading them out to lands not yet discovered. I carve out a deep underground area where the first one was created, allowing them to be discovered by others.

Finished with adding the new species, I drift off to sleep to my youngest's laughter.

Urakyoto – Yasaka's Office

- Yasaka -

Appearing on the seat in front of me was Nurarihyon; I wasn't worried, as I had already felt him enter the wards of the building; not even his famed ability to hide can remain undetected here.

"So, what was so important you wished for a private meeting that not even the elders know of?" I say calmly.

Nurarihyon cracks a small smile before saying, "This old man's remaining heart pains me so; not even a hello from the young queen. I didn't even get to see the little princess."

Rolling my eyes at him, I say, "Hello, how are you doing these days?"

"Why great if not for issues cropping up here and there? Now, straight to the point." he says as the air around him dropped instantly.

Crazy old man, though for him to not carry on playing it up means there's a serious problem.

"So, what's got you this concerned you'd skip your usual banter?"

"Hagoromo Gitsune." Those 2 words had my blood curdle.

"WHERE!" I all but growled out.

"For the moment it's merely whispers that Magari managed to pick up," he said, pulling out his pipe.

"Yes, but you know as well as I do it only needs to be whispers for her scattered members to reform under her banner; most of them have gone missing since her death with the odd appearance cropping up, and the rest of them remain sealed, guarded day and night."

As smoke slowly drifts from his now-lit pipe, he says, "I know. I have Magari on high alert. I'm hoping we can share any information we find between us, though I hear you have a few problems cropping up within the faction."

"Don't worry, we already know when the time comes they'll be dealt with."

"Yes, well, I'm not telling you how to rule your faction, but even if you know there's a weapon pointed at your back, don't give them a chance to draw the blade," he says, cracking 1 eye open as smoke drifts from his lips.

"Hmm, I'll keep that in mind. What about you? I hear there has been someone shaking the box on your side as well." I say, leaning back into my chair.

"Nothing major for now, merely a young upstart creating his own night parade. I'm on my way to speak to the boy's father, Danuki. I'm going to be letting Rikuo handle it."

"Really!" I was surprised Rikuo was still quite young to start becoming the head of the faction.

"Yes, I'd appreciate it if you didn't mention I was here or where I'm heading to; this is a test. Ever since he's tapped into his yokai side, he's had a foot in both worlds and needs to come to a decision. If his father were still here, he'd have the freedom to play in both worlds, alas." He says a hint of sorrow is creeping through over Rihan.

Rihan's death was a shock to us all; he was loved among both our factions, and he got along easily with everybody.

"I won't say a word; it is unfortunate that he must choose, but to become a leader of a faction, some sacrifices must be made." I say, getting a nod in return.

"What will you do if he chooses his human side?"

"What the eastern yokai do best is beat each other up until the last one stands," he says while bursting out laughing.

"Of course." I say with a sigh, what was I expecting?

"Even if Rikuo chooses the yokai, he'll still have to prove himself to the rest."

Shaking my head, battle junkies the lot of them. At least Kunou won't have to fight for her position if she still wants to lead in the future.

"On to other things, what's this I hear about strange abilities coming from some of your members?" he says with a smug smirk.

"Where did you hear this from?" We knew the elder provided the information but not to the eastern yokai.

"Magari picked it up from the black market, information about a Kappa swimming in the earth and a Nekomata able to control strings."

"Bastards!" I hissed out, 'I'll need to speak with my guards. How did it slip past them to end up on the black market?'

"From what it sounds like, you didn't realise," he says, raising his eyebrow.

"No, we knew someone was sending out information to certain groups, but we didn't know it was so detailed and that it ended up on the black market." I took a deep breath to calm myself from the anger I could feel bubbling.

"So, these abilities, they are clearly not sacred gears."

Sighing, I say, "It's not fo—"

Before I could finish what I was saying, the door swung open.

"Surprise!" Souta shouted as he entered my office. I hadn't felt him on the wards. Right, I forgot he and his father felt like plants. I'll have to see about getting the wards updated properly.

"Whoops, my apologies," he said, creeping backwards slowly while closing the door.

I couldn't help it, but I burst out laughing.

Wiping the tears that crept up from laughing, I shouted Souta back in.

"My bad, Himari said you were alone in the office." He said, looking sheepish, takes a few glances at Nurarihyon.

"No problem, this meeting is off the books." I let him know.

"Right, I'll just wait outside then until you're finished."

"No, it's ok; you can sit down." I see getting a smug grin from the old man for some reason.

"So, this is the rumoured secret boyfriend you've been taking on family dates with your daughter," he says, grinning now.

"Wha—" "That—" we both sputter out to the now cackling Nurarihyon.

Coughing to regain control of the room.

I go to say something, but the old man cuts in quicker.

"I guess this is the one you're getting those abilities from."

"You told him?" I heard Souta say it, causing me to smack my hand to my face.

Again, before I could get a word, he outed himself. We will be working on what can and can't be said in these situations in the future, I thought, throwing a slight glare towards Souta.

Nurarihyon now looked like the cat that caught the canary.

"I didn't say anything, but you just did."

"Ah." Yes, 'Ah' – I couldn't stop the sigh leaving me.

"Would you mind sharing the little lovers' secret you have between you?" he says.

Souta glanced my way, wondering what to do as I think to myself, the old man and a few of his members were some of the better yokai; their ways may be different, but with everything happening at once we'll need to work together, especially against Hagoromo. Not to mention rumours have already started, and as much as Souta wanted to slowly release information about the mystic fruits, people will already start sniffing around.

Securing a deal with Nurarihyon will be good for him.

Shooting a glance at Souta, I gave him a small nod which seemed to relieve him.

"Phew, I thought we were going to need to beat him up and tell him to keep quiet about it." Souta said leaving me baffled.

Nurarihyon just laughed out loud and said, "I like you brat; I'll take you up on the offer for a fight anytime."

"I'll remember it, so shall we make a deal?" Souta said, grinning towards Nurarihyon.

"As much as I would love to sit here and go over the finer details, I must be off, confirming it will have to do for now, but I will reach out in the future to set up a proper meeting with you."

"Sounds good," said Souta.

"I'll speak to you again soon, Yasaka."

Giving him a nod, I say, "Thank you for the information; if we find anything, I'll inform Magari."

He just nodded as his image faded out of the air.

"Woah." Souta said, looking around.

Not finding anything, he made his way over to me and said, "Sorry about that; I guess I kind of messed up."

"No, it's ok; I'm just glad it was with the old man. He's good to his people, so setting up a deal with him will be good for you, though we will be rectifying it so you don't do it again in the future." I say, getting a small wince from him.

"There have been rumours going around about the abilities being noticed in the faction, so you're going to be a bit more careful in the future."

"I will, I promise."

"Now, enough about all this business talk; we can go over it in the future. What have you been up to?" I ask.

He thinks for a moment and looks me in the eyes before shyly scratching his cheek, stupidly handsome man.

I'm sick of us dancing around each other; foxes take what we want.

Grabbing his jacket by the collar, I smash my lips into his. At first, he was shocked before sinking into the kiss.

As we both break away from the kiss, he dazedly says, "That was amazing," causing me to break out laughing again.

Silly man.

Urakyoto – Mansion Garden

- Souta -

We were sitting in the garden after our little moment in her office. I wasn't expecting her to pull me into a kiss, but I was glad for it. We had moments here and there, but not enough that it would give me the confidence to push for anything.

It hadn't helped that she had a kid since I didn't know if she would be interested in getting into a new relationship anytime soon; most of the time I just thought she was teasing, but I guess not.

I felt even more confident in putting my trust in her now, so I stuck with the decision I made previously about letting her know of my ability to travel to different worlds.

She was shocked when I mentioned it and was interested in hearing about where I've been so far, so I spoke of my journey to the Harry Potter world, the people I met, the breathtaking sight of the castle and the way the magic felt so alive, the creatures I met and finally getting to let her know about Dennis.

She was surprised to see his new appearance, which soon turned to shock at the fact he could evolve to become even stronger. I then told her of the Pokémon world, of how different it was there compared to here, explaining to her what the world felt like to my yokai side, how the natural energy of the world felt so clean, and the differences in technology. I described all the Pokémon I had met and made a few mentions of the legendary Pokémon in that world.

She just listened as I chatted away, chipping in every so often to ask questions. She said she would love it if I could take her and Kunou to see what I spoke of one day; when I agreed, she gave me a beaming smile.

We decided we weren't going to mention the change in our relation to Kunou yet; instead, we were going to ease her into it since it was a big change, but Kunou was a sweetheart, and I was already a big brother figure to her. I didn't mind taking on a more fatherly role for her in the future; I was technically much older than I should be.

We were currently waiting for Kunou to arrive since I had a surprise for both of them, not that Yasaka knew about it. Before heading over to meet with Yasaka, I had spoken with the 3 fire types. I asked them if they wished to become the Pokémon of Kunou and Yasaka; I let them know what I thought of each of them, and that if they didn't want to, I was more than happy to keep them on the team.

Vulpix wanted to see them both first after I said they were 9-tailed foxes, and Growlithe was happy to follow her. Cyndaquil, on the other hand, was the most vocal about staying with me, which I was more than happy with.

"Mum, I'm hoooome." We heard Kunou shout from down the hallway and the pitter-patter of steps.

As she stepped into the garden area, she spotted me and made a beeline. "Soutaaaa," she shouted as she grappled onto my legs, getting a laugh from me.

"Hello, Kunou, did you enjoy school?"

"Bleh, it was boring," she said, sticking her tongue out.

"I won't be receiving any more calls from the teachers about pranks now, will I?" Yaska spoke up.

Kunou grumbled out a no in response.

"Well, I have a surprise for you both."

"REALLY REALLY!" Kunou shouted, bouncing around me as Yasaka just raised an eyebrow.

Reaching into my jacket, I grab both the shrunken Poké Balls.

When I unshrunk them, Yasaka gasped and said, "Is that?" to which I just smiled.

Passing Vulpix's ball to Yasaka and Growlithe to Kunou, I tell them to push the button and toss the ball away from them and to catch it when it comes back to them.

Following what I said, they both toss the Poké Balls out at the same time as they open, and a red beam of light transforms into both Pokémon.

Growlithe starts running in circles around Kunou, making her laugh, while Vulpix just eyes them both with her head held high but takes glances at their tails.

Yasaka brings her hand to Vulpix, waiting for her to acknowledge her, and after a moment, Vulpix rubs her head into Yasaka's palms, causing her to smile, and with permission from Vulpix, she picks her up.

"So, what do you think?" I say to Vulpix.

"Pix, Vulpix," she says while nodding. I guess she agrees to stay with them.

I didn't need to worry about Growlithe, as he was already rolling on the floor with Kunou.

After letting Kunou and Growlithe burn off some energy, we sat in the garden as I began going over information about both Pokémon.

"Growlithe is a Pokémon known for its loyalty and will fearlessly defend you from danger. When the time is right and Growlithe wishes to evolve, he will become an Arcanine who is capable of running at 260 mph for 24 hours, which is to say, really fast." I say to them, and Kunou began praising Growlithe, who pushed his fluffy chest out in pride.

"As for Vulpix, they are known for their precise control of flames; they have an internal flame that is said to never go out, and they are known to trick people to escape if they feel they are in danger. When they form a bond with a trainer, they are known to become just as loyal as a Growlithe. When Vulpix evolves into Ninetales, it is said that if anyone it doesn't trust grabs one of its 9 tails without permission, then it is said they will be cursed for 1000 years, and not even Ninetales can remove it."

"A 9-tailed fox." Yasaka whispered as she gently stroked Vulpix between the ears.

Pulling out the case with the evolution stones, I hand it to Yasaka since they were a gift to be used on both Growlithe and Vulpix; I already extracted what I needed from them anyway.

Opening the lid, she gasped, "The energy from these crystals is so pure and dense."

"They are the evolution stones you'll need for both of them; remember to only use them when the Pokémon are ready. If you use them too early, it will stunt their growth."

Closing the lid, she gives me a serious nod.

"With that out of the way, let me bring out the rest of my team, and we can have some fun." I say releasing my Pokémon.

"What a pretty scale." I hear Kunou say to Feebas, who was in the pond acting shy.

We spent the afternoon playing and laughing with the Pokémon as Kunou and Yasaka bonded with the new additions to the family.

Before I left, I gave them the grooming kits and food I had bought for them both previously.

I hope you enjoyed the chapter. ^^

Tell me what you thought about my idea for the butterbur leaf, I've been sitting on it for a while; it'll give him an easier time to access the store, his briefcase and travel between worlds. It will also allow him to open a doorway to another world to gain customers from those worlds.

Arceus making an appearance in DxD was a bit of fun on my part, other than that little cameo; he won't be coming back, but he did shake up some of the higher powers with his appearance. Odin and a few other didn't show up, but he was watching closely.

Also, the sneaky little Mew stole a mystic fruit.

I've been on the border for a while now to advance with some romance in the story, and I thought, screw it, let's go for it we'll see where it goes.
