The pitch-black void slowly began to shift. The darkness peeled away, revealing a sprawling, storm-ravaged landscape. I was standing on the edge of a jagged cliff, overlooking a massive, sweeping valley.
And sitting on the highest peak across the chasm, bathed in the glow of endless lightning strikes, was the Purple Dragon.
He was absolutely colossal. Alduin from Skyrim would have looked like a glorified lizard next to him. His scales were a deep, mesmerizing violet, crackling with raw, untamed electricity.
The moment his slitted red eyes locked onto me, he didn't introduce himself. He didn't speak. He just opened his massive jaws.
A torrent of blinding, violet lightning erupted from his mouth, tearing across the valley and aimed directly at my chest.
Instinct.
I didn't run. I couldn't run. I planted my feet, thrust both my hands forward, and channeled everything I had into [Sparks]. A thick, concentrated stream of blue lightning shot from my palms, meeting the dragon's breath head-on over the chasm.
The collision of the two elements was deafening. The sheer concussive force created a massive explosion mid-air, kicking up a wall of smoke and pulverized rock that completely obscured my vision.
Okay, maybe coming into this Sacred Gear was a terrible idea, I thought, struggling to stay on my feet against the shockwave.
Before the dust even cleared, the wind violently shifted.
A massive, scaled talon breached the smoke screen. The dragon grabbed me in a single, Vice-like grip, lifting me entirely off the cliff. He brought me right up to his face. His eye alone was larger than my entire body.
He opened his jaws, revealing rows of teeth the size of greatswords, and let out a deafening, bone-rattling roar directly into my face. Sparks of violet electricity danced across his teeth, threatening to singe my hair.
He was trying to terrify me. He wanted to see me break.
I didn't. I pulled from the ancient power resting in my core, opened my mouth, and screamed right back at him.
"FUS-RO-DAH!"
The [Unrelenting Force] slammed point-blank into the dragon's snout. It wasn't enough to hurt him, but the sheer kinetic impact made his massive head snap back a few inches in genuine surprise.
The dragon blinked. The aggression instantly vanished from his eyes. He gently set me back down on the cliff edge and let out a low, rumbling chuckle that vibrated through the rock beneath my boots.
"It has been nearly five thousand years since someone has used Dragon Magic on me," the Purple Dragon rumbled. "However, the last person who used that specific power against me was the wielder of Albion."
He leaned closer, his massive red eye analyzing me up and down. Smoke began to curl from his nostrils. "But you, human, possess no Sacred Gear. You do not wear the White or the Red Dragon. You have no holy or demonic aura."
He brought his snout inches from my face.
"Speak, human! How do you possess the power of the Dovah?"
I stared into his massive eye, my mind racing. How the hell was I supposed to explain this? I couldn't exactly tell an ancient, mythological dragon that I got my powers from a video game interface.
"My name is Shiro," I started, keeping my voice as steady as possible. "I... I learned my magic from a spellbook. I learned the dragon magic from a tomb... I'm sorry!"
The dragon's pupil dilated. The air pressure plummeted.
He slammed his massive fist into the cliffside. The impact shattered the rock, sending me flying backward until I rolled to a stop. He let out a furious roar that shook the entire valley.
"Do I look like a fool to you, human?!" he thundered. He reached out, grabbing me in his talon again, lifting me into the air and slowly beginning to squeeze. "My name is Leonidas! The Purple Dragon! The Lightning Dragon! Now tell me the truth... how did you learn that spell?! NOW!"
The pressure was suffocating. My ribs groaned in protest. I couldn't breathe, let alone lie to him again. I had to give him the only answer that made any sense in the context of his world.
"I know that magic..." I choked out, fighting for air. "...because I am Dragonborn!"
The pressure instantly vanished.
Leonidas froze. He slowly opened his talon, gently placing me back onto the solid rock of the cliff.
"I see," Leonidas murmured, the anger completely washing away. "That makes sense. A normal human would take more than a decade to learn even the weakest syllable of that spell. It has to be in your blood."
To my absolute shock, the colossal dragon lowered his massive head until his snout was resting on the rock directly in front of me. It was a gesture of deep respect.
"I have only ever met two Dragonborn in my entire, endless life," Leonidas rumbled softly. "It is an honor to meet you, Dovahkiin."
My jaw practically hit the floor. Did he just say it was an honor to meet ME?
I quickly gathered my wits and offered a deep, respectful bow in return. "No, Leonidas. The honor is entirely mine."
The dragon nodded, seemingly pleased. He lifted his head, scratching his thick neck with a hind leg. A loose, violet scale the size of a car fell off and crashed into the valley below.
"You are the only human who has ever found my domain," Leonidas said. "And I have been sleeping for several hundred years. So tell me, Dragonborn... what can I do for you?"
I stood up straight, looking directly into his glowing red eyes. "I wish for you to be my Sacred Gear, Leonidas."
The dragon threw his head back and laughed, a booming sound that sent plumes of purple smoke erupting from his nostrils.
"I accept your wish to wield me," Leonidas said, his tone shifting into something more analytical. "But tell me... why do you want me? Do you wish to conquer this world, like my previous users? Alexander? Caesar? Or do you wish for something else?"
He leaned in close, genuinely curious. "What drives you?"
I stood there, processing the question. What diddrive me? Up until this point, my entire motivation had been pure survival. I grinded the Skyrim dungeon because I didn't want to get murdered by Raynare or Dohnaseek. But now? The Fallen Angels in Kuoh were dead. Asia and Isa were safe. I didn't have an immediate threat breathing down my neck.
I looked down at my hands. I had been given a second chance at life, dropped into a world of gods, devils, and magic, and I was still just trying to figure out my place in it.
I clenched my hands into fists and looked back up at the dragon.
"I don't want to rule the world, Leonidas," I said honestly. "I don't care about conquering nations or leading armies. All I want... is to master my magic. I want to become as strong as I can possibly be, so I can protect the life I'm building here. That's what I seek."
Leonidas stared at me for a long, quiet moment. Then, a massive, toothy grin spread across his jaw.
"Thank you for your honesty, Shiro. I accept these terms."
A blinding flash of purple light consumed the entire valley.
...
I gasped, my eyes snapping open.
I was back in my bedroom. I was sitting on the edge of my mattress, the dark metal ring completely gone.
Instead, encasing my entire right forearm, was a sleek, heavily armored gauntlet. The metal was a deep, polished violet, accented with jagged gold trim. A brilliant, glowing purple gemstone sat perfectly in the center of the back of my hand, pulsing with raw, visible electricity.
"Okay," I breathed, turning my arm to admire the craftsmanship. "This looks pretty fucking cool. But I honestly thought it would look more like Ddraig's or Albion's gears."
"I am able to update my armor and abilities to suit my host," Leonidas's deep voice echoed directly inside my head. "The gear currently on your arm is structurally superior to theirs, and specifically designed to act as a conduit for your lightning casting."
I stared at the glowing gemstone. "Leonidas... thank you."
The gem pulsed brightly in response. "What are you doing just sitting there? Head to the dungeon!"
I blinked in surprise. "Wait, you know about the Skyrim dungeon?"
"I have been watching you ever since you arrived in this world, Dragonborn," Leonidas chuckled. "A quick note: I can speak to you telepathically from here on out. I will watch your progress and offer guidance, though with your unique magic, I doubt you will need much of it. Now, get going. Show me how strong you can get!"
I couldn't help but grin. I had an ancient, mythological dragon acting as my personal coach.
"Alright," I said, cracking my knuckles. "Let's do this."
I mentally activated the skill. [ID: Skyrim World Lv 2 - Enter]
A small system notification popped up in my vision before the transition sequence began.
[Notice: The Skyrim Dungeon has leveled up to Lv 3.]
[Time dilation adjusted. You may now remain in the dungeon for 6 Days per real-world sleep cycle.]
My grin widened.
