Chapter 20 - ARC OF THE BATTLE OF REEFBACK — PART II

Edas destroyed Grōnilubō's skull and leaped high, receiving a kick to his hind legs from Ǣg-berend.

The Centaur threw the Marquess up onto the shell building where she stood. And Edas ascended into the clouds, descending once more upon the fallen body of the Night.

The destroyed skull was ash and barely resembled skin or bones, so calcined that it crumbled into the dust of the ground.

When the Marquess fell, the Night exploded once more, using the impact of the Unicorn's body as a trigger above the ashes.

— Edas! — Cwenburg screamed as she watched the fireball consume the nearby buildings. The structures were destroyed, and even the iron frameworks melted.

Ǣg-berend was hurled into the sky, flying until she crashed through the fourth floor of a large building, with shells for floor and ceiling, shattering them with her Centaur body.

She dragged herself across the third floor, covered in blood, among other corpses that had been there before her fall.

Cwenburg flew using "Levitation" and searched for her husband.

Æthelflæd was the only one who didn't know "Levitation," so she remained on top of the building where she stood. This was a Level 2 Wizard Spell, and anyone who studied Incantations would know it.

Godwyna flew alongside Cwenburg, but neither of them could find the Marquess.

Debris from the buildings still rained down from the sky, like a shower of concrete, shells, corals, byssus, and Mother-of-Pearl fragments. They struck other edifices or plunged into the waters along the streets.

Some unlucky ones were hit, suffering small lacerations or crushed beneath large blocks of masonry, buried alive.

Toward the sky rose Grōnilubō, headless, chest split open, with indestructible flesh in areas that embraced burning organs, her heart pulsing soot-black, and her lungs ablaze with magma.

She had no left arm, and her right leg was gone.

The Night levitated in a circular motion, spinning up into the sky, where she exploded once more, far from everyone, expelling black clouds after the flames died out.

That expanded, darkening all light.

And her name became renowned, the Night.

— Cwenburg, summon your greatest Storm. — Leofwynn asked, and the Water Mage thought there might be survivors in the rubble. However, how could they fight without Leofwynn releasing the Seals?

Without answering, the Unicorn-Girl moved her staff and descended to the waters, where she danced.

Leofwynn still used "Levitation" as she watched Cwenburg, who did not sink as she walked upon the waters, pointing east and west, north and south, and began the Incantation:

— You who sleep until the center of the day and are the prey of mockery from those who hate your face. They laugh while the world sinks, and the heavens hear your prayers. Thunder is your father, and lightning was the mother who so loved one abandoned by all. One day you found yourself alone, and among many you lay, without a future. You saw every path and trod the one you chose. Your regret is the darkest cloud. — in the black sky, rain began, still light. — Sing and dance, go, do not grieve, be the storm within yourself, for this defies your enemies as the sword. Your smile makes them tremble with dread. And your joy from times past still wounds hearts beating in pride. Laugh, trace your voice in the air, speak to yourself that outside there is no one, just as there is none within here, or anywhere. You were born before any life, Water, you flowed through my body, and through all the others who brought me here. And until the last days you will persist. I conjure you, Storm that is Life Itself!

And from every direction, a thousand lightning bolts struck the same null point in the sky.

It was as if they connected the ocean floor to the clouds. The water fell in such a dense torrent that it destroyed the buildings it touched and sank the dry streets, shattering rocks and foundations.

However, Leofwynn's Seals were broken, and gravity, due to the flames, was inverted.

The rain fell and returned against the clouds, part evaporating, part plunging back down.

And even the floodwaters between the buildings began to rise, in droplets drawn in the air.

And at the center of the Enchantment, Leofwynn was pure flames, clad in Fire Armor, wielding a Shield and a Flaming Sword.

Magics fueled by the Vulcana's Aura, she with only two Seals maintained upon her body, the Pillar and the Dimension.

Along the streets, with Leofwynn flying above the city using "Levitation," many Mermaids and Humans, and even other lineages, could be seen trapped in the collapses.

The battle would have to be contained.

In truth, the Vulcana looked and saw the ocean.

She had to lure Grōnilubō away from the ruined buildings.
