Chapter 44 - Chapter 41 : Keigan

(This after the exam. It's same so I didn't write. As she angry and needs time to accept the truth, she'd be a bit more cold and rude. She has fever cause she drank a lot and her pain. She sat beside Keifer cause she's too tired to fight. She didn't write anything. Keifer wrote. And when section e tries to wake her up by kiss, as it is in the book, she gets angry and walks out. The next day is holiday)

JAY'S POV :

Ugh! Why, God? Why do you hate me so much? First, Keifer cooked up that revenge plan against my brother—and me. Then, I blanked on my test. I straight-up slept through it. Failed. Fucking hell.

Now I was trudging through the park, desperate for fresh air to clear my head. I collapsed onto a bench in the far corner, lost in a storm of thoughts—cursing, shouting, crying. All inside my mind, at least.

"Why are you crying?"

The voice yanked me back. I turned. A boy sat beside me, his eyes red and puffy, clearly from his own tears.

That's when I felt the wet trails on my cheeks. I swiped them away fast.

"Nothing. Just… something got in my eyes," I muttered, my voice hoarse and giving me away.

He chuckled softly.

"Lame excuse."

I glanced at him—really looked—and it hit me. Keifer's brother. Keigan, right?

"You tell me," I shot back.

"Why were you crying?"

"I-I… my…" He faltered, staring at his hands.

"Only if you're comfortable," I added quickly.

He took a shaky breath.

"My girlfriend… she has this best friend. A guy. And I got jealous. I hate how close they are. I hate her talking to other boys, especially him. Today, I… I yelled at her. Jealousy just took over. And I hate it did."

Fresh tears spilled, and he buried his face in his hands.

I didn't shush him or bolt. I just stayed, resting a hand on his shoulder—light, steady. When his sobs eased, I asked gently,

"You think she loves him?"

He went quiet, staring off into the trees.

"It's not wrong for girls to have guy best friends and a boyfriend. But cheating? That's crossing a line—developing feelings for the bestie while you're with someone else. If you really think she loves him, ask her straight up. Talk it out calmly. If she admits it, don't explode or yell. Just… walk away. Some people mix up love with infatuation, or friendship with something more. Maybe she didn't realize until too late. You deserve someone who chooses you fully, no confusion."

He looked at me. Really looked.

"But if she says no, hear her out. Girls get torn on priorities sometimes—who to put first. Don't rage or shut down; understand her side. And if his presence makes you jealous? Tell her straight: 'When I'm around, keep a little distance.' Set that boundary kindly, so it's about your feelings, not control. Trust builds when you're both honest. You'll feel stronger for it."

He exhaled, shoulders dropping like a weight had lifted. His eyes met mine—grateful, clearer.

"Thanks. I feel… light now. Really. By the way, I'm Keigan."

He extended his hand; I shook it.

"Jay Jay."

"So… can you share your problem? Maybe I can help. If you're up for it."

I smiled faintly, shaking my head.

"My mess? Can't be fixed by you or me. Only the idiot who started it can sort it."

"Who's the moron dumb enough to hurt you like that?"

I laughed—a real one, surprising myself. Your brother, dummy.

"Just forget it. He'll fix it soon enough. Hey, want anything? Ice cream hit the spot right now."

"Yeah… yeah, I do."

"Cool. Me too."

We wandered to the nearby ice cream shop, cones in hand—mint chocolate chip for me, rocky road for him. We talked nonsense: dumb school stories, favorite bands, how parks beat malls any day. Laughter came easy, the park's breeze drying the last of our tears.

We swapped numbers and parted with a casual wave.

Good. One brother impressed. Now it's just Keifer and the little one. Hold on, Watson. I'll seduce you soon enough.
