"Are you crazy? Why would you do that?" I shouted.
"It's useless requesting her. So, I called her a coward, and it worked." He smirked.
That was convincing. Smart.
"What if it doesn't work?"
"It works. If it doesn't… she would have died."
I smacked his shoulder.
"Idiot. Is that how you deal with things? What if I was in that position?" I asked.
I actually wanted to know. Suddenly, his expression changed. It softened. The smirk vanished. Had I said something wrong?
"That's different… she's different… you're different."
For a second, everything stopped. Vehicle horns faded. Street noise dissolved. It was just me and him, staring. His eyes held mine like he meant every word—raw, unguarded. That soft look screamed truth. Could I believe it? He'd schemed to make me fall for him, and I already had. Was this just another play to impress me? Or did he truly mean it?
I looked away.
"Tss. You're crazy." I muttered, heading back to our classmates.
