The evening settled upon the De Luca estate not with peace but with a quiet heaviness, as though the fading light itself carried the weight of things left unsaid, and upon the high balcony where stone met shadow, Elara stood alone at first, her hands resting lightly upon the cold railing, her gaze cast outward over lands that now whispered her name yet did not fully know her, and within her chest there stirred a conflict that no victory had silenced.

The wind moved gently, yet it did not soothe her, for it carried echoes, fragments of voices from earlier, from years ago, from moments where she had been seen but not understood, judged but not known, and though she had learned to stand through it, she had never learned how to make it disappear.

Behind her, footsteps approached.

Measured.

Familiar.
