The email was simple. It landed in my inbox on a Wednesday afternoon with the subject line 'You're invited to something big'. It was from Jayce, and the message was short. 'Celebrating a major milestone tonight at Foundation. 7pm. Bring yourself and your happiness. You'll want to be here.'
I didn't need to read between the lines to know what he meant. Jayce became a CEO of Pathfinder.
When I first met Jayce, I was a needy girl, believing that someone needed to choose me to make me whole. He represented something to me at the time – a validation of my existence. Over the years, that had morphed into something else entirely. He became a friend to me. A real friend. Not a boyfriend prospect, not a romantic possibility, but a friend.
