Chapter 56 - Chapter 55: The Imperio and Heritage Magic

Regulus understood and followed up, "What specific magic is included in the heritage?"

"There is Ancestor Cassandra's 'Shadow Stealth Charm,' which allows one to blend into shadows, achieving true invisibility and teleportation—it's much more advanced than the Disillusionment Charm.

There is Ancestor Eldrin's 'Nature Magic,' which can guide natural magic into oneself; from the faint vitality of flowers and grass to the heavy energy of mountains and rivers, everything can be harnessed for one's own use.

There is Ancestor Aurelius's 'Sky Volcano Curse,' which doesn't require physical terrain. It can condense a lava core in a designated airspace, which then explodes to form a floating volcano, with magma and flame flows accurately locking onto targets.

There is also Ancestor Valerius's 'Bone and Blood Binding Curse,' guided by one's own blood to forcibly bind with an enemy. By establishing a bloodline connection, one can attack directly through the bloodline or predict attack trajectories.

And Ancestor Sevia's 'Soul Healing Charm,' which can repair soul damage.

The 'Space Anchor Charm' can set invisible anchors in the void to stabilize the spatial structure, resisting Apparition ambushes and space-distorting magic."

Orion listed them off, his tone filled with reverence for his ancestors: "These spells are all extremely powerful, but also exceptionally dangerous.

Especially 'Nature Magic'; a slight lapse in concentration can lead to being overwhelmed by violent natural magic. Back then, Ancestor Eldrin died because of excessive magic siphoning.

The 'Sky Volcano Curse' is a massive drain on mental energy; the slightest distraction can cause it to spiral out of control and injure the caster. The memory impact of each heritage is enough to make even an adult wizard hesitate."

Regulus's heart stirred; 'Nature Magic' happened to echo his previous experiment with guiding the daisy's magic.

Perhaps this was the direction for extracting the Mandrake's lethal magic.

"I can handle it."

He wanted all of them.

Regulus's tone was firm: "What I showed just now wasn't everything. My spirit is far more resilient than that of an ordinary person, and my soul is stable enough to withstand the memory impact of the ancestors."

Orion furrowed his brows, his face full of disbelief: "I admit you have great power, foresight, and wisdom.

But the strength of the spirit and soul cannot be measured by those things. The will of the ancestors has been nurtured and settled over thousands of years; it is far more powerful than you imagine. Even I wouldn't dare say I could completely resist it."

He truly couldn't believe that an eleven-year-old child could possess such a formidable spirit and soul in addition to power and wisdom; it was simply too illogical.

Regulus knew that words alone were not enough, so he looked into his father's eyes and suggested, "Why not try the Imperio?"

Regulus had his own considerations.

In the original book, Harry Potter could resist Barty Crouch Jr.'s Imperio in his fourth year. How was he any different?

Orion was stunned for a moment, then immediately understood his meaning.

The Imperio acts directly on the spirit and will, making it the most direct way to test mental strength. Resisting the Imperio is the best proof of a powerful spirit.

Orion originally wanted to refuse—the Imperio being an Unforgivable Curse was for a good reason—but seeing Regulus's determined expression and thinking of his previous incredible feats, he decided to give it a try.

"Fine."

Orion stood up, raised his wand, and said solemnly, "I will control the intensity, starting from weak and gradually increasing. If anything feels wrong, tell me immediately."

Regulus also stood up and took a few steps back to create some distance from Orion.

"Imperio!"

Orion's spell shot out, and a burst of deathly gray magic surged toward Regulus's consciousness.

Regulus instantly felt an external will attempting to invade his mind.

It was like someone was constantly whispering in his ear with a cold compulsiveness, guiding him to perform various actions: raise his hand, turn around, put down his wand.

This will wanted to take control of his limbs and distort his judgment.

But Regulus's mental barrier firmly blocked the intrusion. The external will crashed against the barrier like a tide hitting a reef, instantly shattering.

It didn't even touch his actual spirit.

Orion saw Regulus's eyes go blank and his gaze lose focus. Thinking the spell had taken effect, he softly commanded, "Raise your hand."

Regulus didn't react at all. He remained standing, his posture upright, showing no sign of being controlled.

Orion frowned and increased the intensity of the spell.

More magic and will poured in; the whispers in his ears became more frequent, and the pressure from the external will grew stronger.

It was as if it were trying to forcibly pry open his consciousness barrier, even starting to interfere with his magic flow, attempting to create a flaw in his spirit.

Regulus remained unmoved and even spoke up, "Keep going a bit longer; I want to feel it some more."

Orion was stunned for a moment, his hand holding the wand subconsciously loosening slightly, his eyes filled with disbelief.

Who in their right mind would want to experience the Imperio more?

This was one of the three Unforgivable Curses, a form of torture that targeted the spirit and will.

When ordinary wizards encountered the Imperio, they either fought back with all their might or were instantly controlled. Who could completely resist it and then actively ask to extend the duration of the spell?

What he found even more incredible was Regulus's state—there was no struggle or magic disruption, and even his breathing remained steady.

It was as if it wasn't an Unforgivable Curse, but a Cheering Charm.

The essence of the Imperio is to forcibly rewrite the will. Even if one can resist it, they still suffer the pain of mental tearing during the process, yet Regulus's tone was as calm as if he were discussing the weather.

This kind of performance—let alone an eleven-year-old—even an elite Auror might not be able to achieve.

Orion could certainly do much more than this. He could make the Imperio more corrosive, even completely tearing through Regulus's mental barrier and leaving permanent soul trauma.

But facing his own son, there was obviously no need to go that far. Such mental strength was already more than enough to support him in touching the family heritage.

He withdrew his wand and looked at Regulus. His eyes were clear, with no trace of being controlled, and even his magic flow was as steady as usual, as if the Imperio from moments ago had never taken effect.

"Your mental strength…" Orion's voice carried a hint of excitement, "is truly enough to withstand the memories of the ancestors."

He put away his wand and looked seriously into Regulus's eyes. After a long while, he said, "Follow me."

After turning around, the corners of Orion's mouth curled up uncontrollably, and his pace quickened slightly.

After another while, he spoke as if casually, though his words inevitably carried a hint of expectation: "Is Sirius… also like you?"

Regulus followed behind Orion, feeling slightly speechless at the question. *Mr. Black, what are you expecting?*

Regulus replied somewhat hesitantly, "He… is very healthy."

"Cough."

Orion gave a light cough and said no more, continuing toward the stone door deep within the training room, with Regulus close behind.

Passing through several hidden corridors, the two arrived at the family Chamber of Secrets.

The door to the chamber was made from a single piece of obsidian, carved with ancient runes that radiated a heavy and ancient magical aura.

Orion chanted an obscure spell, and the runes lit up with red light one by one. The stone door slowly opened inward, and a scent of accumulated years wafted out.

The interior of the chamber was spacious and solemn, with magical torches embedded in the walls illuminating the stone platform in the center.

On the platform sat a dozen fist-sized crystal balls, with a faint silver light flowing inside them, where flickering images could vaguely be seen.

"This is the family heritage." Orion walked to the stone platform, his eyes full of awe.

He turned to Regulus and said solemnly, "Remember, when you touch the crystal, it will directly trigger the ancestor's memories. You must not resist; you must accept and understand, and finally make it your own.

If you feel your spirit cannot handle it, disconnect immediately. Do not try to be brave."

Regulus walked to the platform, his gaze landing on the leftmost crystal ball—Ancestor Eldrin's 'Nature Magic'.

He reached out, his fingertips slowly touching the crystal ball.

A cold sensation came through, and in the next second, a massive amount of magic and memory surged into his consciousness like a tide.

He seemed to see the figure of Ancestor Eldrin sitting quietly in the mountains and forests, along with the insights of establishing a connection with all things.

His spirit was instantly enveloped by this massive impact. Regulus gritted his teeth, his consciousness barrier fully expanding to accept the heritage.

Orion stood by, watching Regulus's expression closely, ready to intervene and interrupt if he lost control.

He saw Regulus's body tremble slightly and cold sweat break out on his forehead, but there was no sign of collapse, and the surprise in his heart deepened once more.

Regulus was immersed in the memories of the heritage; all of Ancestor Eldrin's insights into natural magic were clearly presented in his consciousness.

However, Ancestor Eldrin's Nature Magic stemmed from a unique talent, much like Parseltongue.

Regulus clearly did not possess this talent.

After an unknown amount of time, Regulus slowly withdrew his hand, his fingertips leaving the crystal ball.

"How was it?" Orion asked quickly.

The corners of Regulus's mouth pulled down slightly, "It was alright."
